View Full Version : MediaBridge = crash-o-rama

I've been using the latest version of NR (.20) with the latest Itunes for a few days now with a large library.

The whole thing is totally frustrating, whenever the client device is left for a period of time while songs are playing for example. When you come back to the client to select more songs, the "+" buttons on the tree menus are inactive and nothing will work. NR on the client doesn't give any connection problem errors....

But, when I switch on my monitor on the host PC MediaBridge has crashed. I hover my mouse over the system tray icon and it dissapears, indicating a crash.

This happens all the time. My PPC when left doesnt shut down, it remains in it's dock fully switched on but somehow causes mediabridge to crash after a period of inactivity.

I'm not sure whether or not it has something to do with the playlists, and the fact that on the host certain playlists are being updated by themselves(25 most played, recently added, recently played etc etc). In fact I often notice the recently added and recently played tree menus on the client don't open 90% of the time, and when they do they take ages. Much much longer than opening the full library itself(all songs).

This is happening to me everytime I use NR now, sometimes MediaBridge lists up to 5 clients connected even though there is only 1. In fact as soon as MediaBridge is launched it switches between 2 and 1 clients, like a twitch. This didn't happen with previous versions.

Just to recap:

Start up MediaBridge+itunes
Start up Client
Play a couple songs then stop
Leave PPC for a while ( say 20/30 minutes )
Go back to PPC
Doesn't work, because MediaBridge crashes.

I'm using the default skin btw.

Update: I think it's definately the playlists. Even just trying to view the playslits on the client causes MediaBridge to crash. I did a test just now. And when navigating through the playlists on the client, not playing anything, just opening the tree menus. MediaBridge starts adding more clients connected. I went from 1 --> 3 and then it crashed.

Hi mikea - I'm sorry you're having to go through this, thanks for being patient. I'll run iTunes as you describe all day tomorrow to try to replicate this issue. I don't have a lot of iTunes data, but hopefully it will break in the same way.

Okay guys - please try the attached iTunes update for MediaBridge. I found a few things that might have been causing some issues, but I can't be fully sure, as it sounds like the level of information you guys have in iTunes far surpasses mine.

This update also adds the ability to see album covers in the album cover browser (just like WMP and JRMC).

Hello Ben.

You new version is no success. When starting the new version of media bridge the media library are read in. This happens for 100%. However
the baffle remains and the windows sand glass appear for approximately
3 minutes. Then the following error appears:
Syntax error (operator is lacking) in query - expression 'c:\program Files\NetRemote\MediaBridge\plugins\iTunes_cover_c ache\This Is the 80's.jpg' where trkd_album = 'This Is the 80's' When i delete the cover an i start mediabridge again the error appears with an other cover.

It seems that on the end the covers loaded the cache and the
cache fills up.I have hundreds of covers in iTunes
By the way - I haven't a problem that the functionality of album covers in the album cover browser is not there.

Sorry about that. I've just updated the download above to fix the issue you are seeing with single quotes.

I'll add an additional progress bar for the caching of images, but as Mike has said previously, the caching of images takes some time.

Hi Ben, thanks...

sadly though it's still not right. At first I thought it might be better, but in the first few hours I had two MediaBridge crashes. Also it's still listing multiple clients connected right from launch. I have no less than 2 all the time.

The crashes mostly occur with the library playlists still, and the tree "+" icons don't respond.

Do you guys have itunes installed over there? It is free u'know. ;)

Hello Ben,

The iTunes version of Netremote improves
there are still a couple small problems.

If you give a text in the Search baffle and no track is found, netremote medium bridge crasht. (Runtime Error Program:.....NRMediaBridge.exe abnormal program termination).

If in the name of a track: is a ":" o r "/" then you don't get the cover of the track in the album cover browser.

If walk for a while trou the the album cover browser varied with the search function, Library, playing list after a while netremote medium bridge crasht on the moment you go again to the album cover browser (Runtime Error Program:.....NRMediaBridge.exe abnormal program termination)

I have coupled my ccf Perhaps that helps (up loaded as good one (promona.zip)(there is some dutch in it))

good luck

ps i like the program, i am an old Pronto user - this is much better

If you give a text in the Search baffle and no track is found, netremote medium bridge crasht. (Runtime Error Program:.....NRMediaBridge.exe abnormal program termination).

This has been found, replicated, and correct. I'll post the fix here (before it's part of the 1.0.21.0 release).

If in the name of a track: is a ":" o r "/" then you don't get the cover of the track in the album cover browser.

Do you mean it's only a ":" or "/", or it contains?

If walk for a while trou the the album cover browser varied with the search function, Library, playing list after a while netremote medium bridge crasht on the moment you go again to the album cover browser (Runtime Error Program:.....NRMediaBridge.exe abnormal program termination)

Do you mean that using the album cover viewer for awhile crashes MediaBridge? Or only intermingled with other functions?

ps i like the program, i am an old Pronto user - this is much better

Thanks! I'm sorry MediaBridge is not 100% stable currently, we're moving quickly to resolve that issue.

Are you seeing crashes after some period like mikea is? It's running stable for me after picking some music, including from the playlists, so I'm having trouble narrowing down this specific problem.
