View Full Version : MediaBridge - crash on connection...

Just trying to get MediaBridge working but it keeps crashing...

The setup;
One PC running MediaBridge & Windows Media Player 9 with all my 'tunes' on it, another PC running NetRemote trying to control the first PC.

NetRemote is up & running fine over the network, I can happily send commands to Girder so I know that's not an issue.

I installed MediaBridge but every time I try to instigate a connection by opening NetRemote from the other PC, MediaBridge just crashes. The little headphones in the system tray go yellow, indicating a connection, then immediately crashes;

The error signature is thus;
AppName: nrmediabridge.exe AppVer: 1.0.3.0 ModName: wmp.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00002a34

Any ideas?

Thanks, Iain.

It sounds like it's possible that the cache is corrupted. Go to the Media Bridge plugins directory (\Program Files\NetRemote\MediaBridge\plugins by default) and delete the wmp_cache.mdb file.

Now restart MediaBridge, and it will cache the wmp data again.

If this does not work, please let me know and I will further investigate.

Hi Ben,

I deleted the wmp_cache.mdb and re-started... It starts, then immediately crashes. It *does* create a new wmp_cache.mdb file though which is 72k.

I tried installing MediaBridge on another PC, and it works fine so it's a specific problem to that PC :(

I've also discovered that if I try to 'refresh cache', change the port number or change the associated media player it also crashes.

Iain.

FWIW, a bit of an update...

I gave up with MediaBridge and installed the trial version of JRiver Media Centre 10, which works perfectly.

Shame, as I wasn't planning on dropping another $30 on software after purchasing Net Remote Pro but hey, it's only money :)

...Not to mention the fact that JRMC is a far superior product for those wanting intergration with NR. Money well spent.

Yeah, I didn't realise JRMC will stream the audio over the network as well which is a nice bonus, probably worth the $30 for me not to figure out how to do that bit independantly!

A combo of NetRemote / Girder / JMRC / USBUIRT is amazingly powerful :)

Oh lordy, what I have I got myself into...

Just been looking at your multi-zone setup on your website Mastiff. Absolutely fantatsic work, however, Mrs Popabawa is going to be mighty cheesed off at the weekend when she find out what I've got planned for our humble abode!

Hey, it took three months before I could talk my wife into trying out the system for herself (because of a few unlucky incidents when I had demonstrated it, before MC became multi-zone, WinAmp is an unstable piece of $h1t when you run several instances to get multi-zone that way). Now she uses it like any cd player, only with a very large cd...
