Hi,

I am after a remote which will work with a Laptops IR port....( yes I know its a diffrent set up to a normal remote before any one tells me  ) which iswhy I asking.

I have an RF remote but I would prefer not have that to plug in when ever I want it.. its extra baggage to carry.

Thanks in advance

as far as i remember, IR remote generaly use RC5 protocol (never the IRDA protocol), and IR laptop use IRDA protocol. i think that Mark should confirm what i m saying.

In an other word, i think that u ll don t find any remote that should working with your laptop IR.

U know you can find many and cheap IR remotes + USB or COM IR receiver. make a search on this forum, u ll find the solution ;)

I have been here for a while and I still have to hear of a successfull irda usage.

laptop IR is NOT an IR SENSOR.

it is an IR COMPORT.

compatibility is the issue here.

good luck.

Forgive me, But why can a TV remote not work with a laptop? All you have to do is NOT allow windows to install it as an IRDA Port. By changing the inf files, you can have it installed as a serial port that has a ir device on it. It's  NOT an IRDA device any longer. It's all spelled out in the WinLirc Faq, at
