Thank you for a excellent product. I download Girder yesterday and have my first application working (Polyview). Polyview is a graphics program that I am using to browse through albums of pictures on my Television. The Televison located in the other end of the house from the computer.

You can add to your list of hardware ADI's (Applied Digital Inc - http://www.appdig.com ) Ocelot/Leopard Home automation controllers. Both of these units receive IR events and then are capable of sending ACSII strings matched to the received event out their serial port to the computer. The general serial plugin works just fine.

I looking forward to adding applications like web browsing, video, music to Girder.

The settings that I use with my Leopard are very generic.

Parity: None
Word Size: 8
Stopy Bits: 1
Handshaking: None
Baud Rate: 9600

I also use fixed length of 8 characters and strings that map to the Remotes buttons.
eg:
play----
display-
up-------
down----

This makes things self documenting.
Fixed length just because. No real reason.

There is one disadvantage to the they Ocelots/Leopards work.
They are not capable of doing repeating commands.
The way they work is:

They receive IR.
When IR stops they match the received IR code to the Learned codes.
Then they do anything associated with that code (turn on a X10 lights, transmit ASCII string, etc)

The process can take a second so the setup is not good for things like mouse movements.
But on the Plus side I have one remote that controls all my AV stuff, all my Home Automation, and my computer.
One could also control the computer/AV (they also send IR) from the Leopard touch screen.

I do not know of a UK dealer but I do know of that they are being used in the UK/Europe from HA forms.

I believe there are one or 2 other stockists as well, - I would have thought ww.laser.com would also carry them, but I couldn't see them on their website.
