Hi guys,
I am building a pc for my car, and want to use a Sky Navigator remote control (with keyboard) as the input device. My question is, can Girder be used to handle the input, and pass the output, to the active window ? I don't want a huge keyboard in the car, and the other alterntavie is to buy a touch screen, but this will complicate the input to the navigation software. The Sky remote is a convenient size, and with the keyboard inside will make an ideal solution. Any help therefore will be gratefully received.
I believe that this remote uses the Philips RC6 chipset, which means not a lot to me yet........
Thanks in advance for any pointers to understanding this problem.
cheers

Is this an IR device? Direct PC hookup?
Link?

Sorry for the delayed response Mike, I have just come back from two days in a hospital doing some checks on my heart, which is all fine.
The IR device is a "home made one" which I in fact bought from a website that showed how to make them. It is a serial device that uses the DCD line. Girder seems to recognise it using the IGOR SFH-56 driver.
The problem I seem to be getting though is that certain numbers on the kleyboard are generating the same code ? I don't know how to get the raw codes to check this out, but I am hoping to be able to do some investigation later today. Having read some posts on some forums, I know that the RC6 codeset is not straightforward to decode, \nd want to know if Girder can support it, or if not what else could that's out there. My last attempts at writing a driver where in the days of Windows 3.1, using PASCAL ! I suspect that life has moved on somewhat since then !
Any pointers / ideas on getting this working gratefully accepted.
cheers

Hope you are doing well.
The IGOR device has a priority setting which may work. Search here using IGOR and you will find many posts.

Hi Mike,
I have played a little more. IGOR seems to pick up the keys when pressed, the problem however seems to be that the keys are used more than once ! I set up a new file for numbers only on the remote keyboard. When I learn the commands, 3 and 5 share the same keypressed signla that is picked up, so do a series of the lowercase alpha characters. I suspect that the IR code transmitted is not being fully being picked up, but I don't know how to decode this.
I will have a look around the forums for IGOR as suggested, but I am not sure that this driver will pick this up !
I have noticed that the MCE driver says it supports RC5, so I will try this and see if that works. Thanks for your support
regards

ps, I am fine thanks all the tests were negative, so the prognosis is digestive related.
