Do the different buttons on your remote actually send different eventstrings ?

Sounds like your hardware is sending the same eventstring for every button, what hardware are you using ?

i'm a newbie.. so forgive me if i sound really ignorant..
every time i assign 1 button to perform a task, it will perform the task; however, every other button will also perform the task as well, even though i have not even programmed them to do it.
it's almost as if every button is just 1 button and when i program one of the buttons, every other button gets programmed the same way.
if i try to assign another command to a different button, then wut results is that both commands get executed together, again, no matter wut button is pressed on the remote.
also.. it seems as though when i push a button the remote once.. the command gets sent like 5 times. i find that if i program a button to open a program, then 5 windows of that program will be opened after pressing the button.

i have the AST remote... but the AST hardware plugin does not work with my remote. whenever i choose the AST plugin in hardware settings, it results in an error message saying "cannot open comport."
i get this message whether i plug the remote into com1 or com 2.
the only way i can get the remote to be recognized is to use the "generic serial support" plugin.
but again.. whenever i use this plugin, all the buttons become programmed at once.
so it's either no recognition by my computer, or having to have every programmed task to be performed by any and every button, all at once. i find myself having to choose the lesser of 2 evils, and cannot use the remote properly. =(

hehe, I just had this problem and also fixed it just now (I don't Know if this is the same prob or not actualy)
this is only if you have a universal remote (just bought an RCA one)
what it is is that it has a 'code search' button
if this is the case find the exact directions for your remote and you can get your remote to work properly
