When you click learn event, Girder is waiting for you to input the IR command that you'll use to fire off that function. i.e. - I created a command in Girder to start my TV software. I clicked learn event, and then hit the power button on my remote. Now, when I hit power, the TV software starts. Hope that helps.

-I clicked learn event and it says WAITING FOR IR CODE.

Thanks. That is what I thought but when I hit the button nothing happened. Changed to Com2 and then it worked. Thanks.

Sorry to add to the wealth of newbie denseness but...

Girder seems to recognise my remote, since the green icon in the bottom right changes colour when i press any buttons on the remote. However, when i click 'learn event' a 'girder event' diologue box appears along with a 'eventstring' in the tree and the bottom says "waiting for IR code from event girder" - pressing any keys on the remote does nothing (though the green icon does change colour).

Any thoughts? is it just me or the remote? (x10's UR18A RF remote incidentally). Thnx

first make sure your specific remote's plugin is activate in FILES/STEEINGS/PLUGIN.

then, make sure the input devices are online (FILES/ENABLE INPUT DEVICES)

finally, make sure the pull down menu close to "learn event" is at ALL when you try to learn an event. If it's at girder event, you wont be able to learn remote events.

ifever it don't work, then something went wrong in your settings.

thnx marsupial. It was the drop down menu being changed to 'all' that did the trick. Couch potatoe time....... :)
