I'm not sure what to tell you, eventstring are just the triggers for a command. There is no magic involved here.
In the old girder there was only 1 eventstring thus there was no need for a special eventstring-node in the tree. In the new Girder 3.1 we can have an unlimited number of evenstrings, thus we also need a representation of the eventstring. This representation is the node in the tree.
Let me know what is unclear about this concept.

An IRCode is an eventstring, I call it eventstring because Girder accepts many forms of input not only IR.
Pay attention here, there are 2 types of groups, the 'normal' yellow group and the multigroup.
The normal group contains commands with Eventstrings attached to them, any command with eventstring that matches the incoming event will be triggered.
A Multigroup ( the double remote icon ) is a different beast, think of this as a macro. It has an evenstring attached to it ( in contrast to the group which only groups commands ). When the eventstring of a multigroup matches the incoming event, every command in that multigroup will be triggered regardless of the eventstring attached to it.
Play around with group and multigroups to see how they work, start with simple output like playwav or speech or OSD.

I read what I could find about event strings features and functions but am still not clear how best to use them. I am sure they do great things.
Please post or point me to a "classic" example or two on the problem and how event strings made wonderful things happen.
Ron - Hey, the new eventstring icon in beta 8 is wayy cool. :smile:Thanks for the great work.

Ron,
It looks like you can only have a IR code learned to an event string; everything else seemed grayed out. If this is all that you can do, then are they primarily used to assign different IR codes to the same command?
Can you insert one in the middle of a series of commands within a group so it will start executing at that point?
Thanks, Don
