View Full Version : Do I Need Girder 4.0 Standard, Pro, or Whole Home Pro?

I have two questions:

1. Which Girder 4 product do I need?
2. Do I need 2 IR Transceiver/Receivers or only 1?

Background
I have been using a universal remote control to send IR to a USB-UIRT and girder 3.3? on my HTPC for basic remote control functions for my AV gear (some serial controlled and others IR controlled) and to control TheaterTek. I have been using MainLobby with touchscreen tablet computers for my more elaborate controls, but like to use my universal remote/girder for basic things like volume control, channel changes, pause, ff, etc.

New Set-up
I am getting a new TV, HD DirecTiVo and Hauppauge PVR-500 with SageTV. I have decided to set-up 2 separate computers next to each other to act as the HTPC and a music/video file server. I plan to only have a video card and sound card in my HTPC and put the Hauppauge PVR-500 a serial controller card and hook up the USB-UIRT to the server PC. The HTPC will be running TheaterTek, MainLobby client and SageTV client. The server will be running MainLobby server and SageTV server. So this brings me to my two questions above: Do I need girder running on both my HTPC and server or can girder on the server communicate to TheaterTek and SageTV client running on the HTPC? Can the IR signals transmitted to the server control the HTPC or would I need a 2nd IR device hooked up to the HTPC to control TheaterTek, SageTV and volume on my sound card? I have an extra IRMan lying around, but I would rather not use two IR devices if I don't have to.

Sorry for the lengthy post, but I hope I described my situation adequately. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Murray
