I just purchased and installed NetRemote 1.1.0.44 on my Dell Axim X50V running WiM2003 SE. I am receiving the following message when attempting to start NR.

"Can't create Consumder IR device CIR1: File CIR.DLL is missing. Please reinstall the Consumer IR package. You find this at www.WinCESoft.de"

First of all, CIR.DLL is in Windows folder of PPC. Secondly, www.WinCESoft.de seems to be dead. I found a topic on this board that suggested a soft reset and a reinstall. Did that. No luck.

Any ideas?

Jim, this is a problem that cropped up with the SE edition of 2003. We don't seem to have a good work around. Did you make sure that activesync is not using the IR port? That might fix this problem :(

ActiveSync is not using IR. I will try a few more things on my end but if IR with WM 2003 SE is not supported, I'd like to get "store credit" for the difference between NetRemote and NetRemote+IR.

I will still be using NetRemote on my PPC via hsGirder plug-in installed on my HomeSeer setup. I can do IR via Ocelot for my main home theater but was wanting direct IR for other equipment.

I have had similar problems with my x50v. Here's what helped. Several soft resets in a row helped initially. That worked for a while, but when I updated to the latest NR version the problem came back. I ended up doing a hard reset and then reinstalled netremote. Soft reset right after installed and now it works great. The direct IR works very well (I'm getting 10-15 range using a Xantech sensor for the IR).

Hope that helps.

A hard reset means that all data is lost. I know I can backup but I was afraid of not everything coming back. Similar to using a disk backup of hard drive files versus a full blown and more encompassing PC drive image.

I will instead try removing NetRemote and any registry keys and files/folders left over. Do a soft reset and then reinstall.

I used to get the same message when starting NR on my PPC2002, not every time, but around 4 out of 5 times. My trial expired now but I'm interested to hear about any stability improvements in the PPC version...

I had IR working just fine on my Axim X50v + WM2003SE, but after I upgraded to the latest trial I got this "CIR.DLL" message. Are you working on a bugfix for this?

Are you gentlemen running other software on your PPC's? We've seen a few pieces of software that are meant to "always run" on the PPC that are too "integrated" with the hardware and steal the IR port.

Can you try shutting everything down (a base Axim, basically) and ensure that it works properly then, and then we'll see which software it is that's kludging up the works?

Got it working now.

In my case it was SPB Pocket Plus that was causing this problem. Netremote IR worked immediately after I uninstalled SPB.

Well I have uninstalled PocketPlus but it still displays the same error message ("can't create...") and it doesn't work...

It has something to do with the wifi since it works when I desactivate the wifi...

It would be really cool if you could find how to fix this issue...

It's driving me mad...

I have it working with just blue tooth off. not wifi.

no problems with startup. no need to softreset each time.
