Hallo!

I'd like to buy Netremote but I'm facing following problem: It works only very close to devices.

Is there something wrong in my setting or is it a problem related to my PPC (Mitac Mio 168)?

Thanks to all.

Luciano.

Hi Luciano,

I have the same problem. It is because the IR transmitter used in PPC devices is not as powerful as those used in dedicated remotes. I've read many good reviews about the USB-UIRT (www.usbuirt.com) and I will buy one soon - it is a USB to IR adapter that can be connected to the server running MediaBridge. After I get it I'll let you know.

Eh...to be connected to the server running NRIRServer for now, and running Girder 4 in the near future, not MediaBridge. Two different functions. But I have used the USB-UIRT for two years (I think), and it works very well. A much better solution to the IR thing is using the USB-UIRT and cabled emitters (mine's modified a bit, so it can take 8-10 cabled emitters) and Powermid type IR extenders where cabled stuff isn't practical. It's recommendable in every way!

As usual the M man is nearly right! It could also be connected to the server running Girder 3.3 and certain earlier versions of Girder providing you have the windows driver and correct Girder plugin installed for USB-UIRT. :D

(Hey - did I get my own back Tor? :D )

Partially, J-man. I belive this was about pass-through (even though it wasn't said expressively), but of course you can also create USB-UIRT actions that are called from Girder actions, so in that respect you're of course correct.

Thanks for your information about USB UIRT!

But... what about your PPC?
What's the maximum distance from PPC to devices?

For my PPC is only 0.3 metres (1 foot).

Bye. Luciano.

My current, expensive, state of the art PPC phone has around one foot, maybe less. So it's more of a near control... Actually I have only had one PPC that really worked in that department, and that was the Ipaq 4550. I have heard good things about one of the Axim models as well, but I can't remember which one. Basically infrared is getting worse and worse on PPCs because bluetooth's taking over the traditional use in exchange of business card and modem connection to cellphones.

My scratched and old iPAQ3850 that has lived in my back pocket for 3 years and regularly dropped from heights of 1 metre has an IR range of 2.0 metres, but fails at 2.5 metres.

In our testing, the Axim x3, x30, and x50 (and probably x51) get about 12-14 feet (3 meters?).

I would agree that a range of 12 feet is possible with the X30. However for me it depends on what you are controlling by IR. My Rotel AV Processor seems to be very sensitive to IR commands, and works from across the room. But with my Panasonic TV, I have a range of about 2 feet...

Cheers
