Program focus

I am currently using a Hauppauge "silver" remote. One of the big limitations of the software that comes with it is that it cannot control a program that doesn't currently have focus, so for example I can't control BeyondTV on my TV with my remote while I'm surfing on my monitor. Does Girder get around this? TIA for the help.
