I upgraded to G4RC1 and was greeted with the message that my license had expired so I clicked the "Register" button and entered my name and key (which I got when I purchased the Whole Home version back in October).

Girder accepted it and everything came up fine.

When I brought Girder down and back up, I was presented with a dialog box that said:
"WARNING! You have 1 day(s) left on a temporary key."

I selected the "Register" button again.
Again entered the same name and key but this time I received a dialog box that said:
"Name/key does not appear to be valid. Please try again."

I just selected the "Cancel" button and Girder came up.
Selecting Help / About, Girder says I am registered with the Whole Home option.

I then upgraded to RC1a... Same problems.

I think that is the HAI registration screen, I'll make it more obvious in the next release.

Ok.
But, I don't have the HAI Plugin enabled.
And it isn't even associated with a serial port.

I'm going to remove the HAI files out of the directories and see if it goes away.

Yep. Just renaming the HAI.DLL file to a non-dll extension took care of the problem.
