Try this, we'll have to do with a wrapper program for now, I haven't tested it but while reading up on services I came across this program.
The big rewrite that I did from 3.0 to 3.1 is the first step into completely making the core functionality independant from the UI, its has come a long way already and it's almost within reach. The next big (think 3.2 ... ) release will have this feature.
