Setup: HP IPAQ HX2490 With Windows Mobile 2005, Linksys router and Windows XP desktop. Just downloaded Netremote Pro with IR. Trying to connect to server after apparently successful installations on desktop and PPC. Cut to the chase:
Using NetRemote Utility, first with name (home_control):
system.net.sockets.socketexception: no such host is known
then with homenetwork IP address (192.168.1.103):
system.net.socket.sickets.socketexception: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused
Either address OK on open from File Explorer. Same with XP firewall on or off. Help!!

Can you verify that the ports match in both NetRemote and MediaBridge? Which media player are you trying? Can you verify that nothing else is running on that port?

Ports match: 20003
Nothing else running on the desktop except XP and Homeseer 1.x (although Homeseer does have the Media Player plugin). Using Media Player 10
Thanks for the quick reply.

Can you run "netstat -an" and look for port 20003, both before and after running MediaBridge?

Are you sure there is no firewall running. The error message about the machine actively refusing means either A) It's not listening on that port, or B) A firewall of some kind is blocking it.

OK, netstat -an gives no 20003 before running media bridge.
After running, gives 0.0.0.0:20003 listening.
I did try earlier with both firewall enabled and disabled in XP - same messages in either case as posted previously. Could try again if you wish. I do have Norton Antivirus running on that machine, but it is the old version w/o network protection

Do you have another PC that you could try the NetRemote client on to see if it connects to the server?

Just did on my main XP Pro machine - went right and did its thing right after installation. Please, please don't tell me that it's the IPAQ!!

Is the Linksys just a router or is it also a firewall?

It's a Linksys WRT54G wireless router, with the usual firewall to the internet only. Wireless is enabled and the WiFi system is used only for the IPAQ. Incidentally, the IPAQ still says cannot connect to host even when in the docking station (which is on my main computer, not the home control system with the music library, but which did run the NetRemote client OK). The comm path from the docking station is through the same cat-5 as the desktop which worked OK, not WiFi

Can you browse the internet from the iPaq?

Browsing is no problem. Everything is normal on the IPAQ. OK, mea culpa, I've just found that I reversed two digits on the Mediabridge plug-in 198.162.1.103 instead of 192.168.1.103. It just burst into life. Sorry about the finger trouble, but VERY much appreciate the excellent support and my introduction to the NetRemote system. Now to see how HSGirder works!!
