Long PC to AMP wire versus long speaker wires

Given a fair distance from a PC to where speakers need to be, what's the better choice - long wire to Amp or long speaker wires?

Generally it is better to go for long speaker level cables rather than line level signals, the exception to the rule is for Balanced lines.

However, some have success with long line level cables.

In my experience the best and easiest solution is a long phono cable running digital coax from the sound card and up to a receiver or amp that has a digital input.
