Welcome to Girder!

There are several ways to go about this:
1. Window exists => enabling disabling a group every time a command is triggered.
2. Enabling/Disabling a group when you start the app.

Window exists checks if the window specified in the targetting exists, if so it jumps to a command that you choose. So, assign your eventstring to the command that holds the window exists function and make it jump ( Browse buttons ) to the action that you actually want to make it do.
You might need to play around with this to get comfortable with, so experiment! Feel free to ask if it is unclear after that.

No worries, its a lot to get started with. I guess you read the getting started guide right ?

Okay, now go to the Girder actiontab on the main girder window.

In the dropdownlist there is an action called "Window Exists" Select that one. Press apply.

After this Click: "Target", now search for the program that you want this action to work with. Target this one. Look at the getting started guide on what targetting is.

Now we need to tell girder what to do if the window exists, so click on the first browse button, this links the action that you want to do to this action. So now the second action will only be triggered if the window existed when you pressed the button. If you send me an email I'll send you a quick example. ( My email is the support email address )

hmm,... This explanation is really messy. I need to sit down and rewrite major parts of the documentation. If I do not get any bug reports tomorrow I'll be spending some time on a guide on how to use targetting

The FAQ link in the header seems to point to questions about using the Community Forums software.

I use the group enable/disable method; works great. I exported a sample group to show you but can not past into the post. If you want a copy, send me your email via PM.

Ok, I know this probably has been covered a thousand times but I'm a newbie and well I just don't get this yet. Ok here is an example of what I want to do, I use the enter key on my packard bell remote to play/pause mp3's in winamp. But I would also like to use this to play/pause in my creative dvd player program. but the keyboard shortcuts are different. Is there a way so I can specify "the key means x when creative dvd is open, but means y when winamp is open?" much appriciated with any help. If there is already a good answer to this on the posting if someone wouldn't mind directing that'd be great to. I tried to use the search function but I didn't get any hits that seemed appropriate. (probably this is just such a basic function no else has to ask.) thanks again

I'm very to to Girder, but I was wondering along the same lines. Ie, when I press DVD on my remote, I would like for the LCD display to change, and to be able to access all the DVD controls, when I hit TV, I want the LCD display to change and to access the TV controls.
I'm trying to understand the heirarchial structure (spelling is NOT a strong point of mine) Sorry, but I found the "Getting started confusing and not very useful." I expected to be able to set up a structure like so...
/main
--/DVD
--/DVD/change display
--/DVD/command1_option
--/DVD/command2_option
--/TV
--/TV/change display
--/TV/command1_option
--/TV/command2_option

That way it would only be looking in the /DVD/ commands after I hit the DVD button, and so on.

Unfortunatly I need to wait until my new case gets here before I can start playing with this really, so I guess I'll be doing alot of reading in here.

On average, how long has it taken people to get their system set up with all the remote commands? Couple hours? Days? Weeks? How about working with Displays?
