Okay Plushosting (http://www.plushosting.nl) (my webhoster) kindly offered to help out with the bandwidth problems. So those worries are over.

I've switched to a new installer because this one produces smaller files ( 1.3 megs ). Let me know if there are any problems, be sure to uninstall the old Girder before updating this time ( if you used the installer to install Girder, zip files are not concerned by this problem ).

Girder is getting quite popular, with this popularity comes a huge bandwidth increase, even though I long ago moved the main Girder distribution to the old 'stack' Girder site the bandwidth is getting pretty demanding. The 'stack' server even got swamped so bad somewhere last week that the rest of the pages over there were very slow, to the point of not responding. In the mean time I was allowed to move my files to their FTP server.

I'll keep you guys posted.

One ever so slight error crept into Girder, it will only affect you under very specific circumstances

* not win2k (xp ?)
* target exename larger than 15 characters ( unlikely )

It has been fixed in 3.1.2b, if you already downloaded 3.1.2 and have no problems there are no other changes besides this.

Installing in a different directory won't fix this problem as it is Registery related. If you backup

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Girder3

uninstall

install new girder

and restore that Key you'll be fine.

Note, this is only for the installer, if you use the zipfile there are no problems.

There was a nasty bug in the plugin API in 3.1.2b, 3.1.2c fixes this, please upgrade to this if you use plugins.

Replace all the files in the zip distribution, the reason why the installer is a problem is because it cleans the registery when uninstalling. The zipfile of course doesn't do this.

The reason why I ask you to uninstall is because I switched to a new installer , this has more control and less diskspace/bandwidth requirements. I'm not sure how the old and the new installer will interoperate so the safest thing is to uninstall.

So a zip - upgrade doesn't have this problem.

It should be there, its a little slower then it was, as it is now coming from an FTP server. If it doesn't download just let me know.

And spread the word :-) As long as I can find bandwith more people are welcome.

Hi Ron

I have the slink-e set up with loads of config stuff I have never uninstalled before .....I want to upgrade but fear losing over 20 registry entries for my .cde files etc and if I reinstall I would have to manually re-enter so what is a safe process once I have 3.1.2 up....should I try installing to a new directory and not blow away my current?

Thanks Rick

I'm currently writing a 'hardware faq'. This will explain what each plugin does/how to configure/which to use.
However it's not finished yet!

Whenever I try to download the new release (both installer and ZIP version) I get a "The page can not be displayed" error from Internet Explorer. I tried downloading the 3.0.25 release and did not get this error.

Ron, thanks for fixing the downloading problem.

FYI, Help | Discussion Forum from Girder's help menu takes you to a link instead of directly to the discussion forum.

Is there something available that describes what all the included hardware and software plug-ins do?

I like the new installer. Does Girder require any sort of permissions on Win2K that requires it to be installed as Administrator? That's how I've been installing it. BTW I noticed now it installs in the "All Users" program group. That makes more sense.
