Well, unfortunately, I don't think there are very many people actually trying to use the IrDA - because it is so unreliable. I know I have never spoken to anyone using it successfully. Building a UIR or UIRT is pretty cheap and works 10^1000 times better.
Sorry,

Well, the three options I can think of would be to:
1. Build a UIR-compatible LCD/IR receiver (I haven't checked much into LCD options, but I bet it could be or has already been done).
2. Us a USB-to-serial box to give yourself another serial port.
3. Build/get a USB LCD (again, I don't know anything about LCD displays available).

From all that I have read, I really don't think the IrDA is going to work.

I've tried many programs w/ my Packard Bell remote & have had no success. I would like to know which remotes you guys have gotten working w/ the IrDA hack -> Generic IR Serial Port.

TIA

ps. even reports on remotes that DON'T work w/ the IrDA hack are appreciated.. thx

i really need to keep the one serial & one parallel port for other uses. I have the receiver that came w/ my remote, but if i plug it in, then I've used up all my serial ports. was hoping to use the IrDA so i can use the serial port for an LCD.
