Yes it is possible the recipe:
1. Add a command.
2. Go to keyboard tab
3. Tick "Alt"
4. Tick "Alternative Proc"
5. In special key find "Left"
6. Press apply
7. Press target
8. In Target window tick Only send to first match ( number should be 1 )
9. Tick Execuutable name
10. Fill in Executable name : "Netscape.exe"
11. Press apply.
Voila
This might seem a lot and totally strange, but finding this kinda stuff just take a little trial and error. Especially the targetting can be difficult at first.
Hope this helps.

Hi Jack,
You might want to try doing some simple stuff with Girder first, you might also want to checkout the helpfile.
You can find the netscape back example here
Netscape back (http://www.stack.nl/~stilgar/windoze/files/netscapeback.gir)
To use this you'll need an ir receiver or use the keyboard plugin. If you use the keyboard plugin make sure its enabled. Select the back command, then press "Learn event", now press the key on the keyboard that you want to assign to the command. The next time you press that key a command will be sent to netscape.

Jack,
Do this
1. go to settings window
2. Hardware tab
3. tick keyboard
4. Press apply, then okay
5. Press F9
( Now when you press a key on the
keyboard the green light should blink )
6. Select the supplied command
7. Press select event
8. Press F12 (this will be your back key for now)
9. Thats it.
10. Go to netscape
11. Browse around (!! so we have something to go back to)
12. Press F12
netscape should now go back

Jack,
Please please read the documentation, this is all in there.
In the settings menu there is an option to make girder automatically start. Also is there an option to automatically load a .gir file on start. If you enable these things should work.

That's a bug that was addressed in this thread:
http://www.stack.nl/~stilgar/windoze/forum/viewtopic.php?TopicID=164
I'm sure it will be fixed soon. What are you trying to use the Execute for? To load your .gir file you should use the Load on Start option. You can also set Girder to auto-enable your devices. Once Girder is set correctly it works completely transparent. Mine starts with Windows, loads my .gir file, enables devices, all without a splashscreen or a window, then it just sits in my System Tray. Those options are all in the Settings dialog, just take a few minutes to look around in there.

I'm sorry but I have tried to figure this program out but it seems to be over my miniscule technical head. All I am trying to do is use the "backspace" key during Netscape Communicator 4.72 to execute the "back" function when appropriate. Normally this "back" function requires using the mouse and clicking on the "back" command box or hitting the "alt" and "left arrow" keys in sequence. I'm just trying to shorten it to a one key activity.
Is Girder able to do this? If so, how do I do it?

Ron,
Thanks for the help. I'm getting there but it didn't work the first pass. Here are some questions:
1. It saved to the Windows subdirectory and I named it Back Function. It saved it as a .gir, is this the right place and name? Does it automatically invoke? Did I have to reboot?
2. You said to tick Alt and Left. These are the keystrokes I'm trying to replace with just one keystroke. Where do I name the new key? If this is the new keystoke where do I tell it what the old keystrokes were so it knows what to replace?
3. If I am successful in naming Left Arrow as the new one keystroke for the back function is the program smart enough to know that when I am typing during Netscape.exe(like right now when I am replying on a chat board) that the Left Arrow key is for backspacing and not back paging?
Thanks again for your help.

Ron,
This is very frustrating. I've tried various combinations of your suggestions and I can't get anything to work. I am not using an IR remote. This is keyboard only. When I try your last suggestion and select the back command(alt-left arrow) it throws me back to New folder, puts a New in the black banner area and does not allow me to select Learn Event.
Please re-examine your instructions to me for proper sequencing of individual actions. I know I am probably testing your patience but I really need your help.

Ron,
We are making progress. I have gotten to the point where it is learning the keystroke(in fact every key in this note changes the IR code)but then nothing happens when I try it. It looks like I have to save it someplace for it to take effect. Your last note doesn't say anything about saving/applying.

Ron,
I have gotten a procedure to work and saved it as New.gir. It resides in C:Windows. Now, how do I get it to run automatically when I run Netscape. Currently it requires me to execute Girder.exe, open New.gir, press F9, press "end"(my back key), and press "end" again. It works on the 2nd "end" key and all "end" keys thereafter until I close Girder.exe.
I want to have it work automatically when I call up Netscape, on the first "end" key and without having to press F9. Is this possible and how do I do it? I tried putting Girder.exe in the Startup file but that doesn't really do anything except call up Girder. I know there must be a automatic way to do this but I haven't found a way yet.

Ron,
Sorry I tried to correct my last post to say what happened on the settings window but it was eaten by the message board program.
When I try to checkmark "Auto execute on startup" and hit Browse I get the following message: Access violation at address 004AB84C in module Girder.exe. Read of address FFFFFFFF.
Do you know what is causing this? Is it enough to prevent Girder from working automatically.
