View Full Version : Want to get started. Want to use Harmony 890 - What do I need?

I bought the Harmony 890 last week and set it up over the weekend.

At first I was skeptical, but once I got the RF portion working and spent somet time getting to know it, I think it may be a keeper.

I'm intersted in getting Girder and a USB-UIRT to control my HTPC (zoomplayer and winamp). What all do I need? Just those two pieces? Will the USB-UIRT work with my 890? Or, should I buy the MS MCE remote and receiver with the patch I found on this site?

I'm going to install the trial tonight, but obviously, without a receiver on the pc, it's going to be useless. Guess I'm just looking for Harmony 890/Girder validation.

TIA

i guess what i'm confused on here is, do i HAVE to have one of the remotes listed on the web page if i already have the harmony? how do i get the proper key codes into the harmony to control the usb-uirt?

Hi,

The USBUIRT will accept IR commands from your Harmony. Just pick any remote for a device you do not have. Try and avoid remotes that use RC5 codes (codes that alternate with every press).

I would pick the UIRT over the MCE any day :D

hey thanks for getting back to me, so i'll order up the usb-uirt tomorrow then. when you say pick a remote you do not have. i'm not sure i understand what you mean. are you saying i should "add a device" to my harmony that i don't have that would have a large set of codes? do you have any recommendations? i'm so stoked to work on this!!! thanks again for the reply!
