Hi there. I'm new to all this, but not to HTPC's. I'm recently purchased the Harmony 890 and a USB-UIRT which should hopefully be here later this week. I've isntalled the 890 already and after some tweaking have become pretty happy with it. I want to set up my 890 with Girder to control Zoomplayer and Winamp. I would use the Harmony to transmit RF the the IR repeater which would have a blaster transmitting to the USB-UIRT. This in turn would work with Girder to control the two apps. So here's my head scratching question:

What device/remote should I add to the harmony that will give me remote support in Girder? Media Center PC's are supported, but I've gathered by some posts on this board that the MCE remote is not the best option, especially sine I'll actually have the USB-UITR anyway. So any advice is most welcome.

Second question is, I actually have an old ATI Remote Wonder, but I can't remember if it is IR or RF. Would I be wasting my time setting this up in the interim until my USB-UIRT arrives? I've installed the demo of Girder and want to at least convince myself I'll be able to get this project off the ground before I purchase the full blown copy. TIA for replies. --Bruce

The ATI should work great for this. It used the Generic X10 plugin.

okay, one more question

if the ATI is RF, and/or say it isn't supported on the harmony, what type of device (receiver, dvd player, etc.) would you choose on the harmony that will have a remote supported by girder? does that make sense?

you see, i'm not sure that i can get the harmony to replicate the ati remote since there's really no hardware behind it (like a receiver, stb, etc.).

am i making sense? i'm just struggling making the connection between the harmony and the usb-uirt.

with the Harmony, just select any device you are not using with the following proviso... some devices on the harmony use RC5 codes which means they alternate with each button press -> making learning events in Girder a PIA.

oh and lastly, i wouldn't even need to install the ati remote wonder software would i if i had the usb-uirt?

the ati remote is rf so no go with that one. oh well. can't wait to get my usb-uirt. hopefully getting started in girder won't be higher math for me. ;)
