Hi Ben,
NR 2.0.0.78 fixes one small bug that I noticed in 2.0.0.76, but it has fatal errors connecting with the new MediaBridge on my PC! The following two scenarios are repeatable on my PC:
Scenario A. MediaBridge _not_ loaded. NR 2.0.0.78 loads ok on both PC and PPC (and this is where the bug in 2.0.0.76 showed itself: mishandling of MP.LinkActive=null state is not handled ok). Then start MediaBridge and NR 2.0.0.78 crashes inexplicably on both PC and PPC!
Scenario B. MediaBridge _is_ loaded. NR 2.0.0.78 loads on PC and runs for anywhere from seconds to a minute before crashing with error msg "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. Runtime error! ... This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information." NR 2.0.0.78 loads on PPC and runs for about 5-10 seconds and then crashes/disappears without error message!
In both cases I'm using my new PocketiTunes R3 CCF that I've posted on the skins page.

Hi Ben,
While NR is working on PC (I can't do this on PPC owing to error above), if I open my GAC album covers page, only the first of the 9 album covers per page display. The remaining 8 all show blank. As I page up / page down, the first of the 9 covers for each page refreshes and displays but all other 8 are blank.

peterjwhite,
I can replicate both errors you get when starting MediaBridge before or after your ccf is loaded.
Yours is the first .ccf I've seen so far that produced this error.

Hi Ben,
I can confirm, my web browser is back up and running now, as is the G3.3 instance of the girder plugin. I will let you know if I see any issues with it.
The page loading is quite an improvement for me also.

Peter,
It looks like I may be responsible for introducing an error into the NR code that is causing the problems for your .ccf. I'm currently testing a fix and will let Ben know ASAP.
[update]
Hmmm, there's something else wrong here. I can only reproduce this error with Peter's .ccf. It doesn't occur on four others I've tried. I no longer claim to have broken this !:)

Hi,
There may be an issue with 2.0.0.78 and Marcel Utils, where i have labels drawn on top of regular button, the button image is not showing. The button is there it just has no image. The image is showing up just fine in NRD.

Hi Ben, g.b.,
Any tips for how/where I can even begin to debug this? My CCF works on the old NR 1.x and on NR 2.0.0.76 beta, only 2.0.0.78 is killing it :(

5. Changed: Format for "bind at load variables" from {{ }} to < >
6. Added: Ability to get name of parent element using <^>
7. Added: Ability to get parent loop index using <^LoopIndex>
I just thought I should highlight these three changes, and point out the power that they give you, particularly in combination with the Lua event action introduced in 2.0.0.76
This pretty much provides you with the ability to create reusable components whose names, state rules and Lua actions (and possibly some other actions) can be based on a parent's name e.g. of the containing frame
For example a CCF I'm working on supports HVAC and has cool and heat settings on the thermostat. I'll try to represent the structure of one of these set points in text to illustrate the point.
Here's the frame for the Cool setpoint
Cool -- containing frame
<^^>\<^> -- a frame - appends the \Cool from the parent to the parent's parent's name
<^^> -- displays the title 'Cool'
{<^>} {<^>.UnitsShort} -- displays the cool temperature and the units
<^>:+ -- increase button with a Lua event action of DM.AutoRepeat
<^>:- -- decrease button with a Lua event action of DM.AutoRepeat
Suppose this is in a containing frame with the name 'Office' - when this page is loaded this frame will then become :-
Office\Cool
Cool
{Office\Cool} {Office\Cool.UnitsShort}
Office\Cool:+
Office\Cool:-
The heat setpoint is identical except the containing frame has the name Heat.
In actual fact, these two frames are part of a whole set of frames that are, in turn, contained in a loop frame. The naming is all done automatically when the page is loaded.
It's pretty tricky to describe this, but I hope the above example gives you an idea of how things work. I'll try to post a CCF that illustrates the power of this approach to naming sometime soon.

Did this work fine with 76? The API (though changed) should be compatible with rev 76 plugins.
Does it work with JRMC 12?
Not specifically yet, MeSue. It's on my short list for next release.

No, it should actually be disabled (but I notice it's not working here). The test will only work with G4.

Peter,
I think I've found one reason your .ccf is causing NR problems. Your lua code is making GAC:request() calls prior to a connection being established. This is causing problems for NR. I do not know if this was a recent change made to NR, but it does need to be looked at.
You can workaround it by testing for MP.LinkActive in your OnMPHostChanged, OnPanelLoad, etc. functions to determine whether you can make the call to GAC:request().

I feel like this might just be a me thing, but NR2 has been crashing on launch for me on PC for quite some time, and this new version is no different. This time I put some effort into trying to get it to work...
1. Uninstalled the old NR (.76, which had the same issue for me)
2. Renamed its directory
3. Manually wiped the registry entries
4. Tried using XP compatibility mode for the app
I'm running on Sever 2003. The NR load screen doesn't even appear... I get the arrow w/hourglass, and then shortly thereafter, nada.
Some kind of configuration problem on my end? Bad MFC DLL's perhaps?
UPDATE: Installed on my Vista machine, which then said NR failed to start because MFC71.dll wasn't found. I noted that MFC71U.dll was downloaded during installation, but NOT plain old MFC71.dll. I'll try putting both DLL's on my Server 2003 machine, and see if that does the trick.
UPDATE #2: Yup, that was the problem. Both DLL's (MFC71.dll and MFC71u.dll) were missing from the installation on the Server 2003 machine. Copying those over did the trick. Adding the single missing DLL (MFC71.dll) also enabled NR to run on my Vista machine.

Peter,
Your .ccf will display album covers correctly in NR 2.0.0.78 if you save your .ccf using 1.1 format (right-click system->properties).
I've tested your .ccf in 2.0.0.76 and it does work as it should. I have been unable to get the old method of looping (v1.0) to work in 2.0.0.78 (e.g. <LOOP,3,3,1,1,1>). I'm still trying to track down the problem. Perhaps Ben might have some idea why.

I have found the same thing when installing on three "virgin" computers the last week (a few of the PC's in the house were too old, with SP1 upgraded to SP2, so I got them up to a slipstreamed SP2). You can't get it to work without MFC71.dll, and the installation program does not download that.

Uninstalled the 2.0.0.78 and re-install 2.0.0.76 evrything Ok

This seems to be CCF dependant. If I have one of my CCF's loaded in NetRemote when I fire Designer, it works. If I have the standard new-pro_480x640.ccf Designer just shows the splash screen and stops there. I had no problems on 76 with this. And the CCF I have managed to load without any problems is not a simple one.

Thanks for the tip. I was doing that in the hope it would accelerate album cover loading, i.e. so that by the time the user navigated to the album covers page the first page of data would be initialised. I'll try to make a clean GAC+ implementation.

Peter,
I think I've found one reason your .ccf is causing NR problems. Your lua code is making GAC:request() calls prior to a connection being established.
Hi Ben,
g.b. was correct and it was the early call to GAC:request() that caused NR2.0.0.78 to crash on open on PPC and caused an instability on WinPC that would take seconds to minutes to crash. Note that this only happened if MB was already running on the server, and it was not a problem with any previous release of NR up to and including 2.0.0.76.
I've removed the early reference to GAC:request() in version R3A of my skin, but another problem in NR 2.0.0.78 remains: only the first of the nine album covers on any GAC+ cover page would display on my PC. This occurs with my skin saved as CCF 1.0. I tried saving as a CCF 1.1 file as per g.b.'s later advice but on my system instead of seeing all nine covers, or even one, I saw _no_ covers when saving as a 1.1 file. Note that this was not a problem with any previous release of NR up to and including 2.0.0.76.

We'll need to investigate which plugin(s) are dependent on MFC71.dll and correct them. Everything -should- be using MFC71u.dll.

When 2.0.0.78 does it say your copy has expired, or that it's in demo mode (30 days remaining)? The key system has changed, and we're working on getting everyone new keys right away.
If I have the standard new-pro_480x640.ccf Designer just shows the splash screen and stops there. I had no problems on 76 with this. And the CCF I have managed to load without any problems is not a simple one.
I'm about to upload a new version of NRD which will load it. Right now the new-pro ccf is _newer_ than your current version of NRD understands.
I'll give that a try, but will NR 1.1.0.44 also be able to load a 1.1 format CCF?
No.
In that case I'll wait until the bugs are fixed in 2.0.0.78 such that it can load a CCF 1.0 in the same way that 2.0.0.76 could.
Uploading a new version that will load 1.0 CCF's the same. Apologies for the problem.

The problem is definitely a problem with 1.0 CCFs and the new <^> format throwing the <LOOP> off. I'm uploading a new version that will correct this. But seeing no covers with 1.1 is weird. Can you send me the resulting CCF?

Hi Ben,
I can attest that NR 2.0.0.79 fixes the GAC problem with 1.0 CCFs. I've been making and saving quite a few small changes to my CCF over the past couple of days and can't replicate the 1.1 CCF no album album cover situation. Maybe it was just a temporary glitch owing to all the installing and uninstalling I was doing.
The problem still remains however that if I launch NR before MB I will get the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error some time after MB launches.
Another problem is with the "Color Schemes" in the recent NR Designers... each time I save my CCF the text and background colours of some (but not all) elements changes at random. For example, my CCF is almost universally Black or White text on transparent background, but often after saving using NR Designer and loading in NR I will find elements popping up with with red or magenta backgrounds and/or blue text. I don't know if the bug is in the way Designer saves CCFs or in the way NR loads them. It would help if color scheme could be deleted and Ctrl-A was available to select all items on a panel or all items on all panels and apply a new color scheme.

Hi Guys,
I just downloaded new NR and NRD, nice work again, thanks !
But I have one question regarding updated "RAHAnimation.lua". In its description the new function "SlideAuto" is described to replace function "OpenOrClose".
Until now I used two buttons with OpenOrClose('Frame'), one in the outer frame to open and one inside the sliding frame to close a frame. How can I do so now using "SlideAuto" ? I tried, but neither the open nor the close button worked.
Thanks for Your help !

SlideAuto is intended for use when the button that opens and closes the frame is on the sliding frame itself (which must have a unique name). The button should have an NRBasic LuaEvent action with the value SlideAuto.
Here is an example that I wrote a while ago - I think everything still works.

I seem to be seeing my nr on ppc shut down before NR has started, looks like an error in a script.
I attach the log, it says

Ah, that will be a problem with the DM's ConnectionManager.lua in the version of the DM that you have running. Simplest thing is to edit the SendDeviceUpdate function there - you should see something like
local cmd = cmd .. "DM.DeviceUpdate(devices, '"..host.."')\r\n"
Change it to
local cmd = cmd .. "_ = DM and DM.DeviceUpdate(devices, '"..host.."')\r\n"
Although it shouldn't be causing NR to crash.

Then try NR on the PPC and see if you still have the problem.

I created a minimal version of my CCF that crashes... just click the "Lights" button, and it jumps to a page that brings down NetRemote on PC and PPC.
I've made it not bomb, but this little bit won't always work the way you expect.
What's happening is that NetRemote is attempting to hook a variable to monitor for state by looking for a call to NetRemote.GetVariable() assuming that it's going to use a string literal. This is on the list to change, as it's a bit of a naive approach.
The following will fix it (for now) and make NetRemote happier, but still not totally happy as it's only going to monitor the first variable.
var houseCode = NetRemote.GetVariable( 'iHouseCode' );
if ( NetRemote.GetVariable( 'x10_Descriptions['..houseCode..'][<LoopIndex>]') == "" ) then
return 0;
else
return 1;
end;
Does iHouseCode change while you're on the page, or only when going to the page? If only when going to the page, the following would work ...
if ( NetRemote.GetVariable( 'x10_Descriptions[<iHouseCode>][<LoopIndex>]') == "" ) then
return 0;
else
return 1;
end;
As iHouseCode would get replaced with the value of iHouseCode on page load, so the variable (to NetRemote) would look like "x10_Descriptions[Main][0]" if iHouseCode = 'Main' and it's the first item.

Okay, it's possible that there's a problem with RunLua on the PPC in that case.
In the Lua console in Girder try something like
NetRemote.RunLua([[NetRemote.GoHome('Home')]])
and see if that causes a problem.
You can also try varying the code that's run using RunLua. Perhaps there's a problem with the length of the buffer, so the DM's use of pickle is generating too much code for the PPC to handle.

So I've been playing with the .79 release for a couple of hours and it seems pretty solid. A couple of things I noticed:
1) The MP.LinkActive response seems much better than in .76. It's still a bit slower than I'd like on the PPC, but I haven't seen it not respond like it did before.
2) On the PPC, setting the host by name instead of by IP address works fine. But if I try to test the connection under MB properties it says it can't conect. Using the server's IP address in the MB properties dialog makes the test pass.
I'm using a Dell Aim X51v....

At the point when this message appears, I'm already connected to Girder, and I've received a number of NR variables from Girder. I note that there are still some variables pending however.
Also, if I simultaneously have a NR session running on PC, I see the same messge pop-up there, even though that session is properly connected and has been running for hours.

The file size is about the same size, as it's just storing the data differently. It used to manipulate a lot of bits while loading images on the PPC, now the images are stored in the correct byte order and premultiplied for alpha. If it's using the new format, it's using the new images, but it does seem strange that you're seeing -no- speed improvement.

Hi Ben, on my system stability seems to have gone backwards since the .76 release. I downloaded NR .80 today and it only loads my CCF on PC if MB is not present. If NR is up before MB loads then it simply crashes without warning when MB loads. If MB is up before NR loads then I see a Visual C++ error before NR crashes.
Another problem is that the .79 and .80 releases display the MJB List controls on my Library and Playlist pages as translucent red/magenta instead of white (when MB is not present). If I load the exact same CCF with NR 1.1.0.44 the colours are fine, so it's a problem in NR 2.
BTW What is the trial expiry on the latest NRD? I've switched back to using Tonto because my NRD trial has expired. Could switching between the two editors somehow be corrupting my 1.0 CCF?

Hi Ben, further to above, NR .80 with my CCF behaves differently on PC and PPC. If NR is running on PPC when MB loads on PC then NR on PPC will crash without warning. If MB is running PC when NR loads on PPC then two client instances with the IP address of the PPC appear in MB! This creates a conflict that causes music to play backwards when a track slider is visible on the PPC (I think the delay between the two instances causes the track slider to keep stepping backwards in a kind of feedback loop).
On the colour issue, with MB unloaded, the MJB control displays in red on PC but in white on PPC, i.e. the NR .80 releases for PC and PPC load my CCF differently.

Is the color problem a lack of saturation? On my PPC, the colors appear correct, but not with the level of color saturation as on the PC (red does seem to be the worst).

A couple of positive feedback items:
- Host settting by name on the PPC now works fully in build .80.
- On my WM5 PPC, NR recovery after loss of WiFi connection or suspend (power-down) seems to be much improved in the last couple of builds. In previous builds NR didn't seem to restart without hitting a button or two. Now it starts back up quickly and reliably. This wasn't mentioned in the release notes, so I hope it's intentional. Hi Ben, g.b.,
It was nothing to do with color saturation. Do you remember how in Tonto deep red was used by default to indicate transparency? What was happening on PC (both NR1.x and NR2.x) was that the deep red on the Active Unselected state of MJB List boxes was being rendered as deep red instead of being ignored as transparent. Conversely, on PPC (again, both NR1.x and NR2.x) rendered it as white (neither red nor transparent?!).
Screenshots below demonstrate the four different renderings of the same CCF file (NR1...44 on PC, NR1...44 on PPC, NR2...80 on PC and NR2...80 on PPC). All were captured while MB was not running, because MB is currently causing NR to crash on my system.
My NRD trial has expired so I've switched back to using Tonto as my CCF editor and my workaround has been to make the Active Unselected state of MJB List boxes simply black text on white background (no transparency). I'll upload the latest version as PocketiTunes 3D. I prefer to keep using 1.0 CCF because I'm yet to see any benefit in paying for new license for NR 2.x :(
My conclusion is that (1) the PC and PPC rendering engines are quite different, (2) transitioning my CCF from Tonto + NR1.x to NRD + NR2.x has corrupted my CCF :( Any comments Ben? Especially how I can clean my 1.0 CCF so that it renders transparency consistently? And what is causing NR to crash and burn so frequently? Bug in my LUA code or bad references in my CCF? Why should it only happen when MB is active?

Dunno if it's a fluke, but I exited MB with NR running on the same PC, and NR suffered some visual corruption (wrong/distored graphics, noise displayed in some panes, etc). Relaunching NR cleared it up.

Hi Ben, Greg, Tim,
I'm now at my wit's end. I've uninstalled and reinstalled MB..68, NR1..44 and NR2..80 several times. I've used Tonto to clean up my PocketiTunes CCF as far as possible and uploaded it as version 3C.
The behaviour I see now is:
MB not running
*NR1..44 and NR2..80 both load CCF
MB running
*NR1..44 partially stable, doesn't crash, but I see multiple NR instances appear in the MB window and iTunes performance becomes highly erratic (seems to be getting conflicting and out of order commands from MB)
*NR2..80 unusable, when MB loads then NR crashes immediately.
Can you guys look at my version 3C and see how it behaves on your systems now? Note that I prefer to keep my CCF as version 1.0 so that it works with NR1..44. Also I don't have a license for the new NRD and after it corrupted my CCF I'm nervous to touch it.
Another crazy bug I'm getting with NR2..80 is that it corrupts the Pronto.ttf font. If I remove NRx.x, install NR1..44 then the Pronto font works. If I then uninstall NR1..44 and install NR2..80 all the characters disappear from every panel in my CCF (except the MJB List boxes which internally use a different font). Clicking on TONTO.TTF in \Windows\Fonts opens the Windows Font dialog but it's blank! See attached screenshot...

Are you saying that version 3C of my skin is running perfectly on your system? At least that's good news for the others who have downloaded it!
Do you have a software firewall running? If so then which one? Similarly, any anti-spyware or similar software?
My WinXP SP2 system has McAfee Desktop Firewall, Ethernet Port, WiFi, BlueTooth and a VPN virtual adapter. Hence if you run ipconfig you will see up to 4 network adapters. Maybe that's part of the problem too.
If you have another PC available, do you get the same problem with NR running on a different PC from MB?
I don't have another PC, but I made some small progress today in debugging the multiple clients issue, using MB 2.2.0.68 on PC, NR 2.0.0.68 on PC and NR 1.1.0.44 on PPC.
NR1..44 on PPC: If NR is running on the PPC before launching MB, then I will see up to 6 instances of the NR client when MB loads. If MB is running on the PC before launching MB, then I will see just one (correct) instance of the NR client when it loads.
NR2..80 on PC: If, after reboot, MB is launched before NR, then NR will run ok. Subsequently closing and re-opening either NR or MB will cause NR to crash. If, after reboot, NR is launched before MB, NR will still crash immediately.

Yes, the CCF seems to work fine, at least with MB and iTunes, I didn't test any other part of it.
Ben has introduced code that should stop the problems with multiple network adaptors, but it's possible that there remains a bug there.
Do you have Disable auto discovery checked?
Also, how many instances of the MB plugin do you have?
Might be worth deleting any existing instances and enabling auto discovery.

Cool, at least I should have some credibility with those who download it :)

I think we're closer to finding the bugs and I'm guessing now that they are related to having multiple network adapters. My NR configuration was this: single instance of MB plugin using the PC's host name and default port number.
I then tried your advice, with MB not running I opened NR, clicked File;Properties;Plugins;MediaBridge;hostname, clicked "Remove" and guess what, NR crashed!!
I then launched NR again, went into the Plugins properties and saw that the MB instance had been removed. I confirmed that "Disable Auto Discovery" was not checked (i.e. Auto Discovery Enabled) and "OK"ed the properties.
First thing I notice is that the LinkActive field has a problem. With MB not running my PocketiTunes was in the state LinkActive=True.
Second thing I notice is that if NR is launched before MB, then MB doesn't detect NR. With NR already open on the desktop I can open and close MB with no change in NR and no IP addresses appearing in the MB window.
Third thing I notice is that if MB is launched before NR, NR seems to work ok on the first launch only. If I subsequently close and relaunch NR it crashes immediately!

Hi Peter -
You're not using an nforce chipset by any chance, are you? If not, can we setup a time when I can get access to your network in some way? Maybe open a tunnel in your firewall for me to get access to your media bridge instance? If NR is the thing crashing it's clearly getting something it doesn't like and I'd like to investigate.

Hi Ben,
I'm using a Dell Latitude D610 with specs below. I'm based in Shanghai which is GMT+8hours, are you based in US west coast? GMT-8hours? 24 hours from now would be good, when it's morning here, late afternoon over there. I'll PM you my MSN so we can chat in real time during the process.

Hi Ben
I know you have heaps of pressing matters - and this probably low on the agenda, so no worries if the answer is no. Though I am keen to see speed improvements on my PPC - so is there a newer 2.8x version of NR for CE4.2 yet??
Cheers

I'm seeing a few issues with NR v2.0.0.81. First is that the web browser no longer works if your CCF is in the NRD 1.0 file format. The browser button either shows a small slice of the web page or nothing at all. Re-saving the CCF in NRD 1.1 file format fixes this problem.
This second issue occurs regardless of the CCF file format. I have buttons in a pop-up frame on the masterTemplate Overlay. The button has a PANEL_JUMP action followed by a NRBasic action to set a variable to zero which hides the pop-up frame. If the buttons in the pop-up frame cover an Avid text box or a web browser frame, it won't execute the panel jump (but does perform the NRBasic action). When you then unhide the pop-up frame, the button you just pressed is in the pressed state.

I have informed Rob of a problem I found with an lua file, too.
Have you sped this version up or is it me?

Oh and another one sorry Ben! ;)
I have a action http request in my ccf which has the following
http://user:pass@192.168.0.4:32570/sage/SageCommand?context=SAGETV_PROCESS_LOCAL_UI&command=Down
It works fine from win32, but not from ppc.
I get the following error.
A connection with the server could not be established
I am having no problems from internet explorer on the same device carring out the same command.
Any ideas?

I'm probably responsible for the change in the webbrowser behavior.
I modified the browser plugin so it will only display that portion of a button region that is exposed with the parent frame. If the button hosting the browser is clipped by the parent frame, those portions will now be clipped. The browser window will always be aligned with the button rect, not that portion of the button that is visible.
Please check your ccf to see if this might be the case.
I'm not sure why the broswer is not working properly under the 1.0 format. I haven't seen this myself, but I suspect it is due to changes in the way that frames were managed. Do you have a ccf I can check?

With a CCF in NRD 1.0 file format, it doesn't matter if the browser button is in a parent frame or not. I know what you mean, though. I specifically display some overly large web images within a parent frame and use html absolute position tags to position the image area of interest within the frame opening. But that's not the problem here. Any stand-alone browser button also has problems. Even the "stock" NR ccf with the distribution (I used an older version that was in NRD 1.0 file format).
If you are referring to my second issue, see my observations here (http://www.promixis.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15164) or check out this (http://www.promixis.com/forums/showpost.php?p=104409&postcount=64) CCF which illustrates strange behavior when it's the pop-up window that contains the web browser. I can assemble a test CCF that illustrates the behavior mentioned in my earlier post if you wish. Just let me know. Thanks for looking into this.

OK. I think I can explain what is happening in your ccf.
You are using your buttons to TOGGLE the variable used to control the display of your popup frame.
NetRemote will repeatedly invoke an action while a button remains pressed. The action won't stop executing until the button is released. So in your case, the action will be toggling the pop-up on and off until the button is released.
Now here's the tricky part:
NR is rendering the pop-up frame in a "real" window. If the popup window overlaps the button, the underlying window will not receive a mouse up event - it will get sent to the pop-up window instead. Since the mouse up event was never sent to the window containing the button, it will remain in the "pressed" state and NR will continue to repeatedly execute the actions associate with that button.
I'd rather NR didn't work this way, but that's how it is at the moment.
There is a simple workaround for this problem:
Use an OnRelease Lua action to set (not toggle) the variable you use to control the display of the pop-up frame. The pop-up will not be displayed until the button is released (and the mouse up event will be sent to the button window). This should eliminate the problem.
[update]
I've created an NRD 1.0 ccf with webbrowser buttons and have not had any problems. Can one of you identify a specific 1.0 .ccf for which the webbrowser does not work under 1.0 format? Thanks!

Next week is fine. In the meantime I upgraded to NR81 and the problem persists, but the screenshot below shows an additional clue: corrupt data in the Library MJB List looks like a buffer overrun.
Note also that the WinXP error box showed up during this failure, but sometimes it's the Visual C++ error box instead and at other times NR can silently disappear without trace - the latter makes me suspect you have a memory leak or similar.

Note that NR v1 behaved differently and a lot of people upgrading will get caught offgaurd. Fortunately there is a workaround here too. See the problem statement in post #7 (http://www.promixis.com/forums/showpost.php?p=103617&postcount=7) and solution in post #9 (http://www.promixis.com/forums/showpost.php?p=103727&postcount=9).

I've been having problems with the connection between NR on windows and MB for several releases now. The link seems to come up and down about every second and in the MB window you can see the 4 digits after the IP address incrementing by 1 each time. I think I've successfully troubleshooted this now and have found that it only happens when I request the 'Comment' field from JRMC. My requested fields are as follows: Album Year,Tempo,Favourite Album,IPOD,Comment. If remove Comment it all works fine.

Yes. You -should- be able to (from NRD) use an "instance" version of these to go against a specific instance. Simply open the instance and use it's version of the touchpad instead of the default one.

It's acted this way since since v...76 and possibly before. Since it impacts both the browser and the Avid text box, root cause might be totally unrelated to either.

Thanks Ben. Speaking of stability, I happend to catch a NR crash that is not repeatable. I did a page jump in NR to a page with web browsers that are hidden in pop-up frames. Right as the page appeared, I got the "NR has encountered a problem and needs to close..." error box with netremote.exe in the error signature (ModVer: 2.0.0.81 Offset:000044ab). You can post messages about NetRemote Designer in its own forum http://www.promixis.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=17
You can shortcut that a bit by use Cut and Paste instead, but that's pretty much the only way.

Hi Peter - Greg and I think we've found a few cases of buffer overruns / memory leaks. We're stress testing build 82, and will most likely have a release out tomorrow. If this doesn't fix your issue, then yes, let's go the remote route.
Hi Ben, it's been 3 weeks now, are you close getting build 82 out the door?

Yes, very, very close. Greg seems to have resolved most (if not all) of the memory leaks we were seeing. We have one last minor change we're checking on, and will have something available in the next day or two. My apologies for the delays, we're trying to ensure the next release is rock solid.

I just deleted the shotcut in the windows\fonts folder and copied the pronto.ttf from NetRemote to \windows\fonts and restart the designer...

This issue occurs regardless of the CCF file format. I have buttons in a pop-up frame on the masterTemplate Overlay. The button has a PANEL_JUMP action followed by a NRBasic action to set a variable to zero which hides the pop-up frame. If the buttons in the pop-up frame covers an Avid text box or a web browser frame, it won't execute the panel jump (but does perform the NRBasic action). When you then unhide the pop-up frame, the button you just pressed is in the pressed state.These problems still exist in v2.0.0.83

The relevant point for me is whether these problems occur with any "standard" plug-in-painted objects (such as the web browser or MB tree/list). I suspect that they do, in which case there is a problem with NR's window/frame layering that will need Ben to investigate and solve. My current suspicion is that plug-ins are not getting "repaint" calls at all the points where they may be needed. However, this comes only from reading these postings - my own CCF is rather simple and does not have these issues.

You have added a few things to the scenario there but I recall there is an issue with hiding a popup frame when the button is on said popup.Turns out there is a bug with that too! That's what I ran into in Swampcat's CCF (http://www.promixis.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15164). It would not make the function call from the button actions but would bring up the pop-up frame. And the pop-up call came after the function call in the button action list. See the problem statement in post #7 (http://www.promixis.com/forums/showpost.php?p=103617&postcount=7) and solution in post #9 (http://www.promixis.com/forums/showpost.php?p=103727&postcount=9) which is to call the Lua function OnDown. g.b. explained what is going on in post 101 (http://www.promixis.com/forums/showpost.php?p=106418&postcount=101) of this thread. One can duplicate this behavior with v2.0.0.83.

For my own part, I had not intended to change this behavior in NR 2.0. But I can see that this "button release under popup" is going to be a problem for many users.
I have devised a fix for this issue and will let Ben know that it exists. It will need to be tested before we can include it in a subsequent update.
As an interim workaround, use a lua (OnRelease) function to control popups. This will keep the popup from appearing over the button after the press but before the release.

Hi Peter,
Thanks for your time, this has turned into curlier than expected one!
Changing the max for the slider var to 1000 helped in my text ccf, but didnt help in the ccf that was 'broken' as these were already set to 1000.
After much mucking about with it i discovered the only way to get that one to work again was to take the slider and text string of its parent frame, for some reason it seems to hate its parent!
This is not the first time i have had to delete an (otherwise fine) element from the ccf because it causes a problem.
If you are interested in seeing this for yourself and you would like to investigate to discover why this occurewd i have put together a little demo ccf. It has one of the offending pages from a ccf i am developing and it also has the same elements again just not the parent frame.
To see for yourself start the ccf and try to scroll the top text box, now edit the Lua and i the first couple of lines change the 'WindowIs' line to something other than 'Bio', now when you restart the ccf you will seem the same elements just ungrouped, and now it should work ok.
As i have already mentioned this was working then all of a sudden just stopped. Its too strange for me, but i thought you guys may want to check it out.

Dan, I tried your ccf and I can reproduce what you are seeing - definitely some strange behavior.
I believe it may have something to do with how NR handles events within non-transparent frames (a non-transparent frame creates an actual window element internally). If you make the bio frame transparent, the slider will work, just as if you had placed it outside of the bio group.
I'll see if I can figure out what's wrong. I'll try to give you an update sometime tomorrow (I'm on PST here).
Thanks for the feedback.

Ah - but did your test work if the string was "dynamic" in some way (e.g. changing data like a position counter, or scrolling with a slider)? These are things that can require a repaint.
What we've never found is a specific differentiating case to identify an underlying common factor for the problem(s).

This actually appears to be a problem in Microsoft's WinCE 3.0/PPC 2002 SDK code, though what the problem is I can't tell you. It should work but it doesn't.

Dan et al.,
I have discovered the reason for the behavior you see in your .ccf.
PROBLEM: A slider that shares a parent frame with a scrolling text box does not properly scroll that text box. The slider can be moved but returns to its zero position without scrolling the text.
This behavior is caused by a feedback loop between the avidutils scrolling text box and the NR slider. The scrolling text box is setting the slider back to zero whenever the slider position is changed. The root cause for this behavior is related to repaint events within NR.
WORKAROUND: Bring up the scrolling text box properties in NRD. Check the "continue scrolling on change" box in the list of options (currently the last one in the list). This breaks the feedback loop between the text box and the slider position. The slider should now scroll the text.
I hope this workaround solves your problem. Let me know either way.
Thanks!

So next up is a problem i have on ppc using a progress bar, i found a way to set up progress bars that i think is really neat, combining a slider thumb with a progress bar and topping it with a semi-trans image to create a groovy effect.
I created this demo ccf to show the problem a while back but the issue still exists.
On my PPC when i show bar #4 (the full deal) NR closes without comment.
To see for yourself load this up
Cheers

Dan,
I do not experience the same problem with your progress bars that you do on the PPC. I do however see completely different behavior when running on PPC. The bitmaps appear to move with the slider on PPC but not PC.
I had to scale your CCF down to 240x320. I don't know if you see any problems with the bitmaps on PPC, but after-scaling, they appear to be quite screwed up. This could have something to do with the difference in behavior. I've passed this on to Ben. Maybe he understands what's happening here.

Hi Greg,

Are you referring to the artifacts present in the semi-trans images? if so, yeah i see those.
The bitmaps appear to move with the slider on PPC but not PC.
I had noticed the progress bar works differently pc to ppc, on the pc it draws the replacement image over the top but in the same position, but on ppc it drags the replacement image over it starting at the bottom and pulling it up(or was it the other way around...). I think it would be really nice if you could choose which of these behaviours you wanted the progress bar to use.
I do not experience the same problem with your progress bars that you do on the PPC.
You can view bar #4 without the ppc shutting down NR? Well... i guess this is both good and bad news.
Is it possible that when viewed at 640X480 i am using more system rescources than i have available? I see a similar NR PPC exit with 0.83 and sending (almost) fullscreen imagevariables from girder, the last time i saw it exit i caught a glimpse of my program memory allocation and it was almost all gone, very shortly after NR was gone it bounced back to 23MB. I will look into this a little further tonight.
Sorry i cant offer anything concrete.
Dan
I adjusted my memory allocation and viola! no exit when setting imagevariables or when viewing the progress bar ccf.
I've left it running, constantly setting image vars, ill let you know if i have any troubles.

I just installed 2.0.0.83 and I am now having problems updating web pages
say I have a template button with :
NetRemote.GoDevice("HOME","RSS");
then I defined :
function panelevent(devName, panelName)
...
NetRemote.ExecuteAction(-2,1,33,"WEBRSS,"..os.time());
...
end
...
RegisterPanelWatch("*", "RSS", panelevent);
If I press the button while the RSS panel is already displayed, then the panelevent is correctly called, and I also see the web page refresh, but the contents don't change.
Navigating to another panel first, then pressing the template button works ok...
so I think it has something to do with the wrong tmp file being used for the web browser contents ???
this worked fine in all the previous nr 2 versions...

Marcel,
Would it be possible to put together a subset of your ccf that demonstrates this behavior? I'm not sure that I understand what it is you are trying to do. If anything, the webbrowser plugin in the recent builds is more likely to work than in the previous versions (old versions were reloading previous page immediately after loading a new one), including tmp files generated by sending string to webbrowser control.
Thanks!

Marcel
Marcel,
I can replicate the problem and have discovered the underlying cause for it.
The reason the refresh doesn't work is due to the way NR is creating and destroy panels as a result of a jump. The first jump to the panel containing the web control works. Subsequent jumps to the same page do not work because NR is constructs and destroys each panel on every jump, even if the jump is to the same panel.
The problem here arises because when the jump occurs, a new instance of the panel is constructed with a new browser instance with the name WEBRSS. Then NR destroys the old panel.
Unfortunately, the old panel had a web control named WEBRSS. This name is removed from an internal map when the old browser instance is deleted. There is no longer an WEBRSS entry in the map (but the new browser instance still exists). The actions now silently fail because they name specified in the action can no longer be found in the map.
This is only a problem if a jump is made to the current panel. I'm not sure if there is a good workaround for this other than to not jump to the same panel, or find some other method of forcing a refresh other than a panel load event.
Obviously, this is not what should happen. We will fix this in the next release.
Sorry for the inconvience.

ok,
that workaround works ok :
function jump()
local PanelName = NetRemote.GetVariable("NR.PanelName");
if PanelName == "RSS" then
panelevent("HOME","RSS");
else
NetRemote.GoDevice("HOME","RSS");
end
end

Hi Mircea -
Can you check your MediaBridge instances? My guess is that you have too many, and made need to remove some and disable autodiscovery. The looping issue is -definitely- that, the 2nd issue sounds like potentially that, that it's actually connected to a different instance than the one you think it is, and you just have to change the current instance.

Thanks, the loop dissapeared when getting rid of the autodiscovery on localhost, but the other one...
MB shows the remote connection for a while then there is some acivity, then deletes the client, then it appears again... the only data sent to the NR seems to be the zones defined in JRMC... no other info/actions are going through... and the port displayed in MB changes also!

You are correct. The shell command action has been broken for the last couple of builds - looks like it was my fault too.
This will be fixed in the next release.
WORKAROUND: Put quotes around the exe string, e.g. "\windows\pword.exe". I believe this may get you up and running again.

I'm sorry you've had such problems, we're doing our best to iron out the remaining issues.
If you'd like to try the new beta for an additional 30 days, you can use the following code:
Name: NRTRIAL
Code: BUKCU-A6YB2-2TP6H-AXQKB
Note that this extends the trial 30 days from the date I posted this message, not 30 days from the day you put the code in.
Also, if it has already timed out, NetRemote will exit after entering this code. Restart NetRemote and you'll see the demo has been extended.

Still have the issue with MB/JRMC on win20003...
Got rid of NAV tamper protection, Windows Defender, etc etc
MB shows the remote client but that's all... no information sent to remote NR.
The commands play, fwd, pause, etc are geting from NR to JRMC, but that's all!
Just because i need my jukebox, i had to install a vmware server hosting a winXP with jrmc/MB, but i find it an overkill solution!

Give me a clue...
Tried everything i could imagine... disabled all other apps (mailserver, homeseer, girder, nav, defender, etc), enabled then disabled back the firewall, disabled the DEP, tried to look with sysinternals process explorer, it shows TCP links states "ESTABLISHED" and from time to time "LAST_ACK" - still on the other side, remote NR shows nothing... still: MP.link is true and commands are passing towards MB. On NR, from time to time it changes the zone.
Same from different remote pc's and several CCF's, so it' not a "client" problem.
see attached screen captures (home11= server, the others=NR clients)
Don't get it...

My guess is that it explicitly wants version 1.1. My own "day job" software does the same. Although version 2.0 is generally backwardly compatible, there are pages and pages of documented exceptions - enough to worry about the amount of compatibility testing needed.

Hi all,
Just installed this today and thought I would report on a few findings.
I realise that the cover art problem has already been mentioned - that was one of my observations.
The other is to do with Vista MCE and My Videos. Everything tested so far seems to work great except My Videos - which launches WMP to play the selected video rather than playing the video in MCE. Also, the picture slide show feature doesn't appear to work - selecting individual pics works fine.
Great job on the rest though - loving it so far.

SlideAuto is intended for use when the button that opens and closes the frame is on the sliding frame itself (which must have a unique name). The button should have an NRBasic LuaEvent action with the value SlideAuto.
Here is an example that I wrote a while ago - I think everything still works.
Hi Rob,
I was using the function OpenOrClose(frame,targetpos) (with NR 2.0.0.76) to slide 5 frames from Point A to Point B and all the five buttons assigned to carry out that function worked fine. (Please note Points A and B is same for all 5 frames)
I wanted to change it such that only one frame opens at a time. I achieved the desired result by adding following function (in the RAHAnimation.lua file) with 'Execute on release' to all the five buttons 4 times with different frame names covering all the other 4-frame names excluding the current. But, because of that the sliding motion of the frames slowed down considerably. I don’t know, probably I did it in a crude way, that’s why.
function Close(frame,targetpos)
targetpos = targetpos or 0;
local fr = NetRemote.GetElementByName(frame);
if (fr == nil) then
return;
end;
local x,y = fr:GetPosition(fr);
local n = Animation:New(frame);
local newpos = 288;
if (y == targetpos) then
newpos = start_positions[frame];
end;
n:Glide(x,y,x,newpos);
n:Play();
end;
print('RAHAnimation loaded')
Now I have installed NR 2.0.0.84 and tried playing with the SlideAuto function with the ElementAnimation.lua to achieve the same result but no luck.
Note: My buttons are not the same frame (Please refer to the CCF attached)
I was wondering if there was a wise way of doing what I did in NR 2.0.0.76 to get the desired result.
Rob H
