The media player uses some kind of skinning method that is totally incompatible with the usual way that windows does things. The only way that you could control media player is via absolute mouse moves relative to the media player window.

I'm sure no one will blame for suggesting something else than Girder.
So give a look to uICE from MediaTexx .. someone made an add-on that is a Mediaplayer with remote control embedded. Don't know though which devices are supported.

You know, that sounds like a good idea... I wonder if anyone knows where to find the window messages that media player uses?

hi! to me the gmediaplayer seems a bit like an unsatisfying solution for controlling the WMP through girder. i tried the UICE program from www.mediatexx.com. it has full remote support for the standard windows media player 7. the control of WMP works fine. its a good program, but it reacts very slow, thats why i prefer girder.
i don't know if it is of any help, but the UICE program sends the following command for "Play" to the WMP:
WM_COMMAND:0x00008028:0
does this give you any clou how to control the WMP through girder? mayby you can somehow convert this into a girder command.
perhaps also this can help:
command for "menu" in windvd:
with girder: wparam: 32901
with uice: WM_COMMAND:0x00008085:0
i cant quite understand why remote support for the windows media player works with UICE and not with girder. well, perhaps this can help solve the problem. controlling the WMP conventionally like other programs would be much more comfortable and better then with this gmediaplayer.
thanks for your efforts! girder is great anyway!

HAHA!! IT WORKED!! the commands from UICE simply were in HEX format. i converted it to decimal and used the commands in girder.
NOW WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER WORKS NORMAL WITH GIRDER!!!!!!!!!
i created a group file and sent it to you RonB. mayby you can put it up for download!
no need for GMediaplayer anymore!!!! WMP CAN NOW BE CONTROLLED WITH GIRDER LIKE ANY OTHER PROGRAM!!!!!
well, going to bed now....

the group for mediaplayer 7 is available on the girder homepage (under exported groups).
it also works fine for mediaplayer 8 (windows XP).
there are other groups available especially for version 6.4.

Is abovementioned file available for download anywhere, and has anybody tried it with mediaplayer 6.4? GMedia, though a good effort, doesn't seem to be able to handle my divx's or even mpegs without slowing down to about 2 frames per second (while 6.4 does this fine), so I'm really trying to find a decent way to control it.
