Upon installing NetRemote it asks for the location of the DVD Profiler XML file which would contain the collection of movies. I have several hundred movies on hard drives and would like to have access to these. Does anybody know if DVD Profiler will catalog movies on a hard drive, it seems that I only find a way to add them via scanning them, or entering the name. I did find an interface to browse a drive but the NetRemote screen never responds when clicking this part of the tree. I entered one movie in to DVD Profiler so I would have a collection xml file for NetRemote to read but the behavior is the same. I was hoping that when I have a collection of movies I would get some kind of movie selector to choose a movie and then play it. Are there any additional sample projects for NetRemote to be download so they can be used as a learning tool?

Thanks,

Byron...

Byron - Are you saying your hard drive program will build a collection.xml for you? If you enter your information into DVD Profiler you could then use Girder to play the selected DVD.

No, I was hoping that I could have the profiler scan my hard drives as opposed to entering them. As a last resort I can enter them, but I was hoping not to have to key them in. Additionally I have downloaded the NetRemote Designer and was hoping to open the project which built the default NetRemote, it seems I can only see the pocket PC version of the app. What file do I need to open to see the source to the default NetReport app. Are there other apps available for viewing as well?

It will load whatever interface is open in NetRemote. The release I'm about to post will include more interfaces, and otherwise you can download them from the main Promixis site (in the downloads section).

Ben,

I look forward to your post. In the mean time it seems I should be able to see your project for the default screens. I will try this. Do you have, or is there an upcoming version which will address HTPC where the user has movies on the hard drive(s), where the interface would be similar to what you provide for the song list, so the user could select the movie and play it, or have I just not found it yet??? I know the product seems to ask for a collections.xml when installing, so I entered one movie but the interface did not seem to change. I will work on building a list with DVD Cover art and re-install, and see what happens. The product is really cool, I just have to learn about it. I have been programming since CPM (older than dirt) so I think I can pull this off, but I can't guarantee it.

Thanks,

Byron...

I just realized on thing which might be important is the Drive / UNC path to the actual movie, how would I associate this to the event which wants to launch the movie, I don't believe that this information is in the collections.xml, I have TheaterTek, and Zoom player, I have not purchased either one until I figure out which on seems to work better. Anybody have any feelings either way or is there something better.

I prefer ZoomPlayer as it's generally easier to control from either NetRemote or Girder via a TCP/IP interface. You may also want to take a look at VLC - www.videolan.org as that generally works out of the box and, in theory, should be easy to control.

If you have Girder then I'm currently working on a new version of LDJ (Lua DVD Jukebox) which will take information from both DVD Profiler and will scan the hard drive looking for files, but I don't have an ETA for when it will be ready.
