I want to make sure I can keep my house on line while looking at the alpha. Can I have both G4 and G5 (with the Insteon Plugin) on same machine with no problems?
Is the Insteon Plugin still an option in G5?

You can have G4 and G5 on the same machine, just don't run them at the same time and install in a different directory. Also Insteon is definitely still an option in fact it now comes with the installer, no need to install it separately. (in fact you should not install it separately).

Ron,
Not so good so far...
I just tried G5...it locks up (have to shut it down via windows) pretty consistantly after about 5 minutes...anything you want me to look for?
Also, my Insteon license key doesn't seem to be recognized...is it different for G5? 30 days on the trial isn't going to last long.

the Girder 5 license has changed indeed. I will be mailing out license keys this month. And/Or posting extension keys on this forum.
About the crashing. We run G5 internally without seeing this. What version are you running and which plugins, Components and serial devices do you use?

I closed all the default loaded GMLs and it hasn't crashed yet...I don't know...Just running G5 (build 507) the default set of plugins (which I'll try shutting down one by one if it starts crashing again...I'm only using the Insteon (1.3.7) and some X10 right now).

I too am seeing a lockup after about 5 minutes.
I have just installed G5 build 507 for the first time today. Everytime I start the software crashes 5 or 6 minutes later. At first I thought it might be related to Insteon as I always saw Insteon messages in my Lua logs and event logs, but after disabling the Insteon plugin (and verifying) I still get a lockup (an hourglass and unresponsive app).
This is a fresh install with no registry settings carried over from G4 and no plugin configurations made.
What is the next step in troubleshooting? Is there a debug log that can be enabled and written to disk?

Please list all the plugins you have enabled. Then disable ones you are not using.

The problem seems to be related to the Communication Server plugin. With it disabled, the system runs (atleast for the 10 minutes I waited). With it enabled, I get the lockup after about 5 minutes.
What is the next step? Would an ethereal/wireshark trace be of use?

that would be very usefull. Can you list the send us the communications that happen when Girder crashes?

Is it sufficient to gather communication to/from port 20005 or are there other broadcast type traffic that I should gather as well?
I can see logs on my G4 server and it appears that a Girder to Girder announcement/discovery happens about every 5 minutes.

weird. Just log that port for now.

Well shucks. I didn't see any traffic at all to/from port 20005, so I opened up the capture filters. I see an initial discovery phase via multicast on startup, but nothing of significance from that point on.
G5 still hangs after about 5 minutes though when the communications server is enabled. What's next?

What is your OS, Girder version, Firewalls, anything relevant...

Ron,
I've disabled the communication server, and had it do the same lockup as before. It just appears the GUI is locked up though...the scripting engine is still running, the web server is still running.
I'm running Win XP Pro, SP2, CA easy firewall...I'm VNCing (UltraVNC) into this computer. I'm running on a Xeon processor (doubt it matters, but probably a little unusual) It ran for a day with no problems, now tonight it locked up twice in a few minutes. The next time it goes, I'm just going to let it go and see if it comes back.

hmm, can you start disabling plugins and see when the crash stops. Try disabling the transport plugin as it is very new.

disable the audiomixer. I've been hearing some trouble about it.

Ron,
Did new G5 Insteon keys get sent out? Although when I recently updated G5, it looks like the timeout was reset, so obviously you're addressing this.
Thanks,
Jon

Did not get around to that yet. Still testing the licensing code.
