hehehe feel free to convert the plugins :-) I do agree with you but I'm first gonna get 3.2 stable, then I'll see if I still feel like tweaking the UI.

Since we now have the GVMS the old registers (1-25) are effectively obsolete. Therefore, can I suggest that before the final release of 3.2 everything (girder main/plugins) are converted to use the new variable system.
I know girder now uses the new system really but what I mean is allowing the user to choose the name of the variable.
Here is what I suggest:
1. The old reg manipulation functions stay in since many people probably still use these.
2. The register checkbox on the O.S. tab for volume has a configurable variable name - somewhere in the settings dialog: this could still default to 'reg25' so compatibility with older gml scripts is not broken.
3. Plugins should display a text box for variable name rather than a 1-25 dropdown list (like the sendmessage plugin with girder 3.2).
This would include the numbuilder and copydata plugins.
