1) your latest serial port/transport stuff in 509 doesn't support nulls

also note my comment that the the com port enumeration is ok in 509-2,so I uncommented in init.lua again :
local t = serial.EnumUsingGetDefaultCommConfig ()
I also uncommented again :
self.Serial:UpdateStatus ()
and have not seen any errors yet...

2) your gd library doesn't expose the png related functions
