What causes the connection to close frequently and randomly?

I'm running NR 1.1.0.44 and Girder 4.0.14.
Is the recommendation that I move to 2.0 to correct this?

The client is a PPC (Dell Axim v51).
I have read your post in the NR 2.0 forum and looked at your log outputs. I am seeing similar behavior however I am not running NR 2.0. I am running NR 1.1.0.44.
The plugins I have loaded are AvidUtils, Generic, Girder, Infrared, MediaBridge, Wake On Lan, WebBrower, andZoom.

Ah, okay - that explains the lack of a GUID.
Can you try disabling autodiscovery in the NR's File|Properties dialog. It looks as though it's successfully connecting on socket 8093 and isn't closing that one, but it's then trying to open different sockets for some reason.

Can you post the Girder log?
Hi Rob,
All my logs are in this post http://www.promixis.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15932&page=2
But this is of course G5 and NR2.
I can re-enable remote acces if you want to have a look at anything else with a PPC conected.

Autodiscovery was disabled.
The log that I included with the opening message is with autodiscovery disabled.

Does it actually cause a problem though? ie does NR stop talking to Girder or vice versa?

Yes in my case PPC becomes very slow (amost frozen) and if I manage to press a button it usually gets ignored as the connection has dropped/reset.

And in my case, NR stops talking to Girder. Button clicks on NR on the PPC look like they are accepted on NR (ie you will see the button image change) but no commands show in the Girder logger)

Have just updated to NR2(.87) with the new dmcore.lua (that Rob put on my PC last night) and G5 (512) and now the peoblem for the time being has gone.
Will move any new issues to the NR2 or G5 threads as I'm not using G4.

Is the dmcore.lua a solution for this problem on NR1 and Girder4 as well?

No I'm afraid not, since DMCore will only work with NR2 in conjunction with G5 and the device manager.
However, the new version of NetRemote.lua might help in G4 - keep a backup of the existing one before installing this though.

I tried the new lua. I didn't experience a disconnect for a few days but they now have reappeared. I made no other changes to the system since installing the new lua

Rob,
I've been experiencing the same issue with two installations we did last week. In both cases, we have installed G4 and NR2.0.0.87. To remedy the issues, we uninstalled .87 and installed .81. In addition, we added a "force reconnect to Girder (-2001)" button on all of the main .ccf screens. This has worked as a good band-aid until I can figure out what's going on.
One of our installations has one Dell x51 connecting to Girder. The other (Mitchell) installation has four Dell x51 PPCs. MikeC RDPed into the site last week and said something evil was going on with the PC's network card. Since that time, we have replaced the PC and installed all of the Promixis software. The problem with the PPCs disconnecting persists and Girder often hangs. My hunch is there is a problem with either the latest Denon.lua file or the latest Russound RNET plugin.

I don't think there have been any changes to the Denon lately. Mike may have some changes to the RussSound though

I have been using the stock Denon lua for a few months with just the receiver model number and a device number change. And I am not using the Russound lua.
It seems to be happening to users on Girder 4 and 5 and NR 1.1 and 2.0.
Is the Dell Axim v51 the common element for those experiencing this problem?
Or is it with a common plugin that we all are using?

Could also be the network hardware. I think we may need versions of NR and Girder that have more debugging information about comserver connections.

I think that makes a lot of sense. That will help us to rule that out or in.
How big a task is it to add the debugging capability?

I have upgraded to NR2.0.0.88 and the drops seem to be happening almost constantly now. I can get the connection to open briefly by restarting the lua engine.
1) Is the dmcore.lua referenced above available for me to load or does that only help if you are running G5 (I'm on G4)?
2) Is there any progress on NR and Girder versions that have debugging capability for comm server connections?

Do you have "disable auto discovery" in the NR Properties ticked or unticked? I have mine ticked and this seems to make a difference.

Richard -
You are correct. I had auto discovery disabled previously but in the course of upgrading to NR2, the disable box was reset to unchecked (Maybe the default condition on Disable AutoDiscovery should be "checked"). It seems to have settled down for the moment. Thanks for the suggestion to check that.
Has your situation of losing the connection from the PPC to the server gone completely away now? If so, can you tell me what version of NR and Girder you are running and if there are any special modification you or the Promixis team have made specifically to address the dropped comm server connection?
Questions for the Promixis team:

2) Is there any progress on NR and Girder versions that have debugging capability for comm server connections?
Thanks

To be honest I'm not sure, as I've just moved house so haven't been using the system for a couple of weeks. And because my NR crashes a lot I haven't been using it much recently in a live situation.
The connection problem does seem a lot better but I'll need to watch it a bit closer to be sure.
I'm currently running Girder 5 (514) and NR2 (.89).
I think the DMCore.lua file is only for Girder 5 users as it's for the Device`Manager component of G5.
