After using Girder4 and NetRemote2 for almost a year, I remain puzzled on what is the ideal setup for these devices. To elaborate, here is a typical configuration and what settings I use.
Girder4 configuration
Girder4 and MediaBridge are installed on a dedicated PC running MCE2005 with a static IP address of 192.168.1.10.

5. Generic Serial
6. Global Cache
7. Keyboard
8. Mouse Control
9. Scheduler
10. SendMessage
11. TaskCreate
12. TaskSwitch
13. Tree Script
14. WebServer
15. Window Conditional
16. Zip Extensions

B. Server Port: 20005
C. Server Password: girder
D. Allow Remote Code (Checked)
- Settings/ WebServer
A. Webserver: Enabled and on Port 80
B. Secure Webserver (Unchecked)
- Settings/ Girder To Girder (Unchecked)
- Settings/ NetRemote/ Generic Config
A. Enable NetRemote (Checked)
B. Log Messages (Checked)
- Settings/ NetRemote/ IR Passthrough
A. Device: IR Passthrough Disabled
- .GML Files: Typical files include serial control of DenonAVR Receiver, Russound CAV6.6, and IR-based components controlled by a GC100 (192.168.1.70).
- Installation of Girder Russound plugin and Rob H's Denon.lua file
NetRemote configuration
Typically use 3 or 4 Dell Axim v51 PPCs configured with static IP addresses beginning with 192.168.1.11.
- Tools/ Properties/ General:
A. Start Fullscreen (Checked)
B. Disable Auto Discovery (Checked)
C. Restart NetRemote automatically when returning... (Unchecked)
- Tools/ Properties/ Plugins
A. Girder (-1)
192.168.1.10 (-2001)
Host: 192.168.1.10
Port: 20005
Password: girder
Mode: Girder4
B. Infrared (-3)
No Instance
C. MediaBridge (-10)
192.168.1.10:20003 (-2010)
Host: 192.168.1.10
Port: 20003
D. Wake On Lan (-4)
255.255.255.255:9 (-4)
Broadcast IP: 255.255.255.255
Port: 9
- Tools/ Properties/ Default Host
Hostname: 192.168.1.10
My finding using these settings: For the most part, the Pocket PCs are fairly reliable, but notice in the G4 logger that the connection will close and render the PPC useless. What I hope to accomplish with this posting is to make the relationship between G4 and NR as robust as it can be. I believe this will be useful for all G4/NR users, especially those that are not expents.
Thanks you in advance for your help and comments.
Cheers,
Rob
