I'm trying to record IR codes with Girder on my Laptop, my laptop has windows media center edition with an expresscard remote (RC6 ir). What I'm doing is enabling all the plugins in Girder 4, Adding a new remote (using the wizard), and I press a button on my TV remote, but Girder will not detect it, but if I use the remote that came with my laptop (for media center), it says Selected Source Device: Keyboard. That's the only IR code it will read, the one from the supplied remote.. Does anyone know what plugins I need? Or another app I should use besides Girder? I'm new to all this and I'm quite lost.

It sounds likely that the IR hardware will only work with the supplied remote. We'd need to know more about your IR hardware to be able to help.

All I know is that the bottom of the remote says RC6 IR. And it's not listed in the device manager at all (or none that I can see.) Maybe "Media Control" under sound/video/game controllers... The laptop is an HP Pavilion DV6108, if that helps at all.

There are only a few truly universal receivers. The USB-UIRT and the IRTrans are two examples. The built in IR receivers are usually of limited use.
