Greets folks. Another Newbie question. I have just downloaded 4 and have no idea what I am doing :) I have read the manual to get started and followed the instructions. But still no go. When I push a button on the Firefly remote it registers on the bottom left hand corner of the Girder screen but, it comes up with all sorts of different names to what it is supposed to do. eg. button "D" comes up as Button "F" and Maximize comes up as "MTTV" and various others
SO do tell what am I doing wrong. The above were using the default files that came with the prog. I have tried with both WMP 11 and VLC so far.
On XPPRO with all of this as well. Tis midnight here so if I dont get your reply son I shall read it in the morning.
Thanks

hi,
use the expert view.
just open the logger window and drag the events generated by button presses on the remote to the actions in the GML.
hope this helps ;)

Could you please explain the above so an ID10t could understand it? Thanks
And as an aside How do I know if the remote is installed properly? I can see the little lights down the bottom changing colour does this mean the computer sees it for what it is? Thanks again
Actually I worked out what you were saying but it still doesn't seem to make any difference. I push the buttons on remote and nothing happens. It shows the correct keys in the log window but, nothing happening in the prog I am using (VLC)

I also have snapstream installed. Although I don't have this running when Girder is running I was wondering if it could cause some confusion along the way.

1. Create an action.
2. Open the log window
3. Press the button on the remote that should trigger the action
4. Drag and Drop the event from the Log window on top of the action node.
This should hook the event to the action, pressing that button next time will trigger the action.

listed. In the log screen when I push a button it comes up with Snapstream firefly X10 and one I tried to make up myself. Is there a way to stop all of these coming up? I shall try the above method and see if it works for me this time. thank you for your assistance. Can I delete the remotes that are coming up and start over again? Maybe I am confusing with too many commands.
OK slowly getting somewhere. Found where I can turn other remote definitions off so that is fine. Now I can power up VLC but not control in anyway. I have tried pressing the appropriate button and dragging from the log but still no go. Although this is how I did it to get VLC to power up. Some more assistance perhaps? Tell me where I am going wrong. :))

hi,
sorry about being a little hard to understand ;)
just a little info.... most of the standard GML's have a 'window conditional' attached to them. This means that they will only trigger an action if the target application is the active application. Removing the window conditional will make the GML work for regular use.
Girder has a steep learning curve, so don't be afraid to ask questions.
hope you'll work it out. ;)

Can you narrow down where these "conditionals" hide am using the manual but that tells me how to change but not where I can find it. Or am reading in the wrong places. Woohoo hang on there. Found the conditionals box. Trying to follow instructions for the Calc setup but some of the boxes they say appear don't. Manuals fault or mine?

But still no success. Am guessing there is one fine little point I am missing here. Working out what is the fun part. Any ideas

Lets take a step back here.
When you press buttons on your remote does it show in the Girder Log Window (doesn't matter if the names are wrong).

and it would seem that a majority of them are correct as well. It shows for the X10 and the Firefly remote

If I can get this working then all will be good

No, which program do you want to control?

VLC is the program I want to control. If not I will settle for WMP11 if thats any easier. OK just checking some more and WMP actually works for me now. Don't know what I did but still no go with VLC. Stranger and stranger

Well I am glad WMP is working. Sadly I have no experience with VLC. So I can't help at this moment. Maybe someone else knows VLC?

I was close to right. The only buttons that work in WMP is the play, pause and stop. So continued assistance on this would be good. Do tell where do I find the Window Picker? Keeps mentioning it in the manual but I cant find it anywhere.

It's possible/probable that VLC has been updated since the VLC GML was created so some of the targeting may no longer work. I think Jens (esajesa) did the VLC GML. To check this can you forget about the remote for the moment and see if the actions in the GML work when triggered using the F5 key (note that this won't work if the window conditional is enabled).

The windows Explorer GML works for me and there is a conditional in that that I can see. Would I be right in assuming the conditional would be in the top layer of the tree? Where do I check to see if the F5 key works? Do I click on something first then F5?
OK I did find how to do the F5 thing for Start and Stop in WMP but that is all it will do for me. As an aside when I press button on the remote should it show up twice in the log? Thanks again

Is there someone that has a *.GML file for the latest verion of VLC that works that I can get hold of? That way I can see what is going wrong my end. By the way I am using the firefly remote if that makes a difference. Also if you happen to have one for WMP 11 that would also be much appreciated. Thanks one and all
