View Full Version : Dual monitor setup - how to switch right?

Hello,
Maybe somebody here can give me a hand here..

Setup: 2 monitors. #1 Small LCD (secondary) - for audio (JRMC12, Netremote, Girder) and other Windows stuff (all icons, taskbar). #2 Large LCD TV (primary)- for movies, pictures and games.
I made the Large LCD primary so that the full screen applications go there.

When I don't need to use the Large LCD - I don't switch it on and just use the Small LCD. However, some dialogs and such still go to the Large LCD since it's Primary (but it's OFF!). Not a good situation..
So.. I learnt how to switch/swap monitors around with Girder.
I disable the Large LCD. Everything works just fine. Then, I enable the Large LCD and make it Primary again.

Here's the problem: after I do the above, all my icons and the taskbar move to the primary monitor, i.e. the large LCD, but I want them to be on the Small LCD!

Here's the question: I have an Nvidia video card and there's an option in nView Desktop Manager | Tools | Windows Utilities | Move to Display. This does exactly what I need - moves all icons and the taskbar to a specified monitor. But there's no shortcut for that..
Is there any way to get to that option with Girder? Or maybe there's some other way to move those desktop items?

TIA!

I wonder what the move to display command does...? Is there any more info about it?

Move to Display - moves Windows taskbar and icons to a specific display.
In a single monitor setup this option is disabled in nView. For multi monitor setups, once you click on Move to Display button, you are given a drop-down list of active monitors and select the one to move those things to.

You can assign hotkeys in the Nvidia driver page. Under Desktop managment.

Haven't played with this feature much, so not sure if girder can access it directly, but worth a shot.

Unfortunately, it's not hot-keyable..
I managed to script this in UltraMon.

Hi Max,
I read your thread and had a quick play with Nvidia desktop management to see if i could find a solution for you.
It looks like you can set where your each application opens and where its dialogue boxes open individually, so that could be one way around it.
I also found in the Desktop Manager under Window Manager the ability to set a hot key for the action 'Send all windows to display' so maybe that could also work.
Good Luck

Hi Max

Try out the attached gml.
It changes simply the primary monitor and disables the other ones.
