AST/Logitech Remote and Serial Receiver

I was curious if anyone happens to know if the AST/Logitech IR Reciever complies to a "standard?" I have purchased one and it should be coming in the mail shortly, I am sure it will work for Winamp and Girder, but I am not sure if it will work under Linux or with any other third-party software. I know that IRMan complies to a "standard" of some kind and just need to know if the AST does also...
