I originally set up my HTPC system using Girder 3 (with a Pronto & USBUIRT) and Meedio, but have now gone the Microsoft route with Vista Home Premium and the bundled Media Center application (eHome). It works very well and more importantly, is the WAF.
I bought the Microsoft MCE remote to go with it, but it’s very limited in functionality and the receiver spoils the aesthetics of the system.
I’d like to use the M/S remote, together with the USBUIRT to control VMC, the Panasonic Plasma ON/OFF (connected via RS232) and the amp ON/OFF & volume (via IR).
If I use Girder 4, what plugins are required, are they already included and how much configuration is required? Does anyone already have a GML I could use?
Thanks.

OK - I've looked at Girder 4 & 5 beta, but I'm still not sure what plugins are required. The included MCE2005 gml doesn't have all the functions. I just need a point in the right direction.
Thanks.

Hi,
I don't use MCE or that remote. So don't have a gml for you.
Plugins:
Generic Serial after enabled you'll see a Serial tab in plug in settings high light com1 change devise click panasonic plasma ok change if communication Ok apply if not try other com's
Usb uirt driver You'll most likely have to learn the remote key press per event
Most likely need keyboard and mouse.
Won't need audio mixer if your using a reciever
I'd use the keyboard shortcuts like:

and build my own gml.
Hope this helps

Thanks for that Leaf.
I've decided to keep the MS receiver for the time being until the new Vista remotes are released later this year. I still had to use Girder & the USBUIRT as I had to programe it to toggle the plasma on/off via the serial plugin. I had to do it this way as the amp control is via IR, so all I had to do was to program the TV on/off on the MS remote to be the Amp on/off and for Girder to pick up that code.

Hi:
I'm a newbie at this so have some basic questions.
I've got Netremote (on iPAQ via Wifi) working to control my MCE MY Music.
I also just managed last night to install Girder (I'm using 4) with an MCE plugin so that it recognized my MCE Microsoft remote, but I've never done any key mapping or events or anything with Girder.
How do I get the Microsoft remote rcvr to blast IR to my amplifier or DVD player from either my Microsoft remote or even better yet (but not absolutely required) from my iPAQ Netremote? I just want basic things like amplifier volume up/down, or DVD player menu controls.
I don't really understand anything about USB UIRT or even if that is the right thing I should be playing with.
Thanks, ..Roger

Does anyone know what this plugin is called and where it can be downloaded? I can't find a MCE plugin on the Girder 4 plugins page. I'm using Vista 64bit.

I need the same thing. I'm surprised that full support for this combo doesn't exist!

I've come looking for the exact same thing.
I want to use my MCE remote (or any other I choose) with the built-in consumer IR port that came on my HP laptop. The included MCE remote and port work fine together to use Windows Media Center but I want to control a different application also.
I'll keep poking around meantime.
Thanks.
