It is highly unlikely that this will work. :(

THe IR Keyboard receiver takes the specific IR codes form the remote ketboard and translates them in ot keypress actions like a, b or c. It will only react to specific codes, so even if you got it to receive something it would be rather limiting.

The only way to use this would be to have some other IR device transmit the same IR codes that your old keyboard used to. That way Girder could use the keyboard plugin to accept them and then do whatever you want it to do. If your keyboard is broken then you don't have a way of teaching a learning remtoe the codes :( If you can find a another keyboard albeit temporarily then maybe you could learn the codes into a remote.

The other problem would be the need to have two keyboards on the same PC. typically the only way to do this would be to have a USB keyboard as your main keyboard and this IR receiver as a secondary device.

Probably the best and easiest option is an IRMAN ($30-$40)

I have an old Wireless keyboard that does not work any more. The IR receiving unit on the keybaord, however, is still functioning perfectly. I was wondering if it was possible to use that receiver with Girder as an IR remote control receiver. I also have a PS/2 to Serial converter which i was figuring i would use. Any help would be greatly appreciated, i am at a complete loss.

Thanks,
Will

That was what i thought would probably be the case, but i wanted to run it by some people who would know more about it than me. Thanks for the help.
