Can I control three direct tv satelites independantly with Girder from one remote? They are all located in the same closet.
I am thinking that I can use DVD, SAT, VCR to control each of the Direct TV boxes somehow. If this will work what extra equip will I need.

The hardest part is separating the IR - you could probably do this using a USB-UIRT with external emitters providing you could ensure that the internal emitter was only visible to one of the DirectTV boxes.
Another alternative is a GlobalCaché which only uses external wired emitters.
If the DirectTV boxes support RS232 control then that would be your best option in my opinion.
Once the hardware is in place it should all be fairly straightforward.

Some sat and cable boxes also have an option in their menus that allow you to change the IR codes they accept, thus eliminating the need for "zones".

That would be even simpler :)

So I checked and I can not change the IR codes on the receivers. So I am assuming that I can purchase Girder and USB-UIRT and isolating each emitter. If this is true I plan on making the purchase and getting started.

I could be wrong, but I believe the USB-UIRT has 2 zones. You should probably ask for a solution in the UIRT forum.
