View Full Version : NR2 Status Request

I wonder what the status of development for NR2 is at the moment.
Frequency of updates has rather quickly deteriorated and correspondence from the Promixis Dev team regarding bugs has become sparse.
NR2 has not come out of Beta and yet things appear to be finished.
I only ask as i am a keen supporter of NR2 and would dearly love to see the last few issues ironed out.

"Shortly" is clearly longer than two months.
IMHO your loyal and paying customers deserves an answer: Will there be a usable, non-beta NR2 in the future? And an approximate schedule... Already paid for it...
I do not want to be unfriendly, but this is becoming a problem for me.

Actually it's only just over a month. I'm sure there'll be an announcement soon.

Ron,
I agree with theguywiththefunnyhair concerning the status of development for NR2 and for NRD.
I'm not sure what you would consider bad news. I would't take the annoucnement that NR2 will
no longer support IR directly from PPC's as good news. The sales web site:
https://www.plimus.com/jsp/dev_store...eloperId=37072
mentions that for NR2 "IR Support requires a USB-UIRT or a GlobalCache on a Win32 Machines, PPC native IR is not supported."
While native IR is sort of a legacy issue, it was one of the features that attracted me to NetRemote in the first place.
I recently purchased a Dell axim v51x on ebay, partly because it had decent natire IR range. GlobalCache is certainly the better way
to do IR, but when my wi-fi connection to Girder breakes, I want a reliable, even if limited, backup for control from my ppc.

The same question could be asked about Girder 5.
In the last month or so we seem to have lost MikeC and BenS from the forum and developent certainly seems to have slowed right down on G5 and NR2.
So at the moment from what I can see Ron and Rob are trying to provide some level of support but other key members seem to have just vanished.
As a paid up owner of G5 and NR2 this does concern me a bit.
Ron, what's happening please?

Sorry for the lack of updates here guys. There were loose ends that had
to be tied before I can/could announce anything, and once all the loose
ends where tied up my wife gave birth and I have been running around ever
since without any sleep. Ben has left Promixis to focus on his other company.
Not to worry though as development on NR2 has continued and our internal
builds have fixes for some bugs out there. Once I have my life back
I'll do a release build. NR2 will come out of beta. No doubt.
The story with the IR library is that the supplier of that library simply
did no longer want to extend the contract to license the library to us.
We have worked long and hard to find a replacement but have been unable
to find it. We have looked at developing our own implementation but that
does not make sense financially, especially if you realize that almost no
one actually bought the IR library, it's an extremely small part of our
business.

Thanks!! It's a great thing to hold your baby girl in your arms.
And to address the Girder 5 concerns I have the following screenshot attached that should speak for itself without comments. This will also work for NR2 once the Girder version is fully working.

Don't see how you can say something like this and then tell us Ben has left Promixis. Anyway found him about on the web at http://www.hidef-litterbox.com/?page_id=17

We regret that Ben wanted to leave but he had informed us some time ago that he wanted to focus on other things. We have used that time to prepare and development on NetRemote is continuing.

How about Mike C? Haven't seen him around here for a while either. Has someone else taken over the Insteon development?
Ron
August 28th, 2007, 07:01 PM
Yes Mike has left, I have taken over Insteon development. I will shortly announce a new Promixis team member! Again sorry for the lack of an official announcement. I am a walking zombie at the moment, my baby is on a 2 hour feeding schedule all day and night long. Everything happened at the same time when it finally was all sorted out.
