I am trying to put NR on a Samsung Q1 ultra running a clean boot of windows vista home premium. The resolution is 1024 x 600. This resolution is not in NR. With a 1024 x 768 resolution set up in NR, the window on the Q1 only takes up a portion of the screen with vertical black bars on either side.
Is there any way that I can run NR in 1024 x 600 or do I have to drop the Q1 down to 800 x 600.
Thanks

You have to edit the NR CCF file and change the size of the screen.
Load up the CCF in NR Designer and right click on "System" in the tree view on the left hand side of the screen. Click "Properties" and it will will then show the screen size of the CCF.
In the drop down list select "Other" and then put the resolution in the boxes under the drop down list. NRD will give you the chance to auto resize the buttons and fonts if you want although you may want to re-square the album cover buttons as they will have been squashed slightly.

thanks for the advice. I can't believe that I missed that, it is so simple.
I am afraid that I may be missing something as simple with these next few questions.
First, how do you configure buttons to communicate with a global cache piece over rs232. I have communication with the global cache, but unlike adding an IR code to a button in the NR designer, I can't figure out how to send rs232 commands. I have a sunfire receiver with rs232 and I just want the volume up and down buttons to talk to the receiver via rs232 instead of IR. From the manuals it seems that I need to use girder and write a LUA plugin for each sunfire command, is this correct?
second, when I installed NR designer on my Q1 I receiver two errors
"the application has failed to start because MSVCR71.dll was not found", and "error openin g http://www.netremote.org/dll/MFC71.dll the server returned status code 404"
After searching the forum I found that I should add MFC71.dll to the system32 folder, which I did and I did the same for MSVCR71.dll. I took both of them from my install that works on my laptop.
After this the installation errors went away, but every time I start the program now, I get
"Cannot write registry value RegName
-the handle is invalid"
I press ok, then I get
"cannot write registry value RegKey
-the handle is invalid"
I press ok, then I get the first error, this goes back and foreth about 8 times then I get
"there was an error attempting to check your registration. please contact nsupport@promixis.com"
"could not detect the server onyour network click ok to enter a hostname
manually"
and finaly,
"error registering type lib"
I press ok and NR boots up and seems to work.
any idea what I did wrong.
thanks so much,
Kaeton

I think those netremote.org problems have been sorted... check [URL="http://www.promixis.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17082[/URL"]]HERE (http://www.promixis.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17082)
The "could not detect the server onyour network click ok to enter a hostname
manually" is normal. When you start up NR on your umpc in the top line menu where it says "File Help Please register (xx days remaining)" go to File>Properties and then go to the default host tab. Enter the IP address of the server that has MediaBridge installed and/or Girder installed.
Next go to the Plugins tab and open the trees next to Girder and MediaBridge. If you don't see your server IP's there here is what you do.
Girder:
1. Select "Create Instance" then enter the Host IP, leave the port, enter the password and select which version of Girder you have.
2. You will have to setup Girder Network Server on the server itself to the same settings to enable your NR<>Girder communications.
3. Once that is done, if you have Girder 4 or 5 you will be able to use the "Test" button. If you have Girder 3 the test button doesn't work for some reason even though the connection may be up.
MediaBridge:
1. Similar to above... "Create Instance" and then enter Server Host IP, leave the port and enter your password.
2. On the server open MediaBridge and in the program window select the big icon with the two tick boxes.
3. On the "General Settings" tab all you need to is enter the password you have chosen in step 1. It's in the box at the bottom of the tab.
Once that is done you should never see the "Could not detect the server..." dialog again.
The registry errors "should" go away if you connect to the server I think (I'm guessing it's trying to connect via the net to check your licence and then having a hissy fit when it can't find a route to the internet). The error registering type lib is probably connected to the missing DLL's. As I don't have a UMPC I'm just guessing that the DLL's need registering somehow. Maybe copy the dll's over to the system32 directory in WinXPe and then doing a hard reboot will register them properly.
thanks for the advice. I can't believe that I missed that, it is so simple.
No worries... the program is great but the docs need some work for new users. Once you start to understand the methodology it gets a bit easier to understand. I've had a LOT of problems with the docs as I think Promixis have got so familiar with their program that it is hard for new users to get to grips with it easily. It's a very common problem with programmers to do this... even I've done it in the past. That's why I think it's always best to have a non-computer savvy person do the docs... they don't make as many assumptions.
One thing that did help me was digging around the net to find info. I found references to the Promixis Wiki that had some good stuff on it - it was out of date but the explanations were much simpler. I wonder what happened to that Wiki as it seems to be no longer around!
All I can say is keep at it... once you start to understand NR more and more you will find it more than worthwhile.
Hope that helps..
