Hi all,
Just found this product!!!! Where have I been?!

The question is this can girder be used to do what I want and if so what do I need to make it work?

Ok here goes...

I want to be able to control AV equipment and home automation stuff via IR and Rs232. I want to be able to do this from a PDA (over WiFi) running an interface made with Flash (nice and animated). When a button is pressed on the interface, it sends a Wifi command to "something"(?) that then sends a command to the device in question.

Ok I used "something", because I'm not sure what to use... Maybe it could be a PC running a webserver with the flash interface on it as a webpage?? I DON'T KNOW... Thats where you guys come in :)

Would be nice to know if anyone is using this or knows how this works, or if it can be done at all!

Thanks for any help in advance.

You should be able to do this using Girder and NetRemote as the front end, there's a flash plugin for NetRemote that can be used for this. I've not really played with it as I don't know Flash, but I'm sure others here can help.

I have a similar case and question.

I will have a monitor, keyboard and mouse in my living room. My computer will be in the closet. The keyboard and mouse are bluetooth. I want to have a program that I can pull up on the computer and control my equipment. This will include switching inputs on the components. I would like to be able to mimic the remote functions of the different remotes. I do not want a remote that runs the computer, but instead an IR blaster that makes the computer a remote controller. I am OK with having to learn commands, but I would hope the program comes with a large (and upgradeable) database.

Is Girder and USB-UIRT the combination that I need to do this?

Thanks,
Rob

Girder and NetRemote should do what you want, at least if you have a touchscreen monitor for NetRemote. We don't have an IR database as such but you can download CCF files from somewhere like www.remotecentral.com which you can use instead of learning IR commands.

Yes but my question really was can I use Flash as an interface.
Can it be bi-directional? If the equipment can send a status (volume level, on/off) can this be detected in Flash?

Where can I go to see how this is done??
