I have Girder 4 (and it wroks great have a huge amount of automation in theater and around the house) and have bought designer and NR wholehouse. also have usbuirt and snapstream.

Want to be able to do 1024x768 touchscreens or laptop interface.

I have some questions:

1. Should I go to Girder 5 now before I embark on this?
2. If so how difficult is the migration to G5 I use alot of serial control I note there is new stuff in G5 for that. How is that different?
3. What is a good base ccf for handling music and ripped DVD, photos I like the mce one ...can NR talk to media center in Vista and is that ccf already to use with Media center in Vista?
4. Will also want to control Sat, TTek, etc

Thank for advice

I would move to G5 now, but then I would say that :)

Most serial devices will port easily, the only thing that you may need to watch out for is the ReceiveTerminator - in G4 a receive terminator of say '\r\n' (ie CRLF) would match on either CR or LF. In G5 it will only match on CR + LF. What devices are you controlling? Naturally, if you have any problems we'll do our best to help.

I'm not entirely sure about Vista MCE, someone else who has it will have to answer that one.

If I were you I'd download the Girder 5 trial and try them out - if there's a problem then post the files.

Yeah... I have 3.3, 4 trial and 5 beta on the same laptop for testing purposes. You just can't run 4 and 5 at the same time as they argue who is who I think heh.
