I've ordered a X-10 MouseRemote, along with an ATI RemoteWonder, and will make them work ... eventually. :D
I've had a look at the GPL'ed maX10 code and the serial plugin should work just fine. I'll update the device support file and patch together a .gml example to go in the serial plugin package once I get the hardware.
For the ATI RemoteWonder, I have the SDK and most of a new plugin for it completed. Just need the hardware to test.

I bought it from the ATI site. It hasn't arrived yet. I live in the USA.
No, I will NOT marry you.

Don't expect windows to detect anything on the COM port, it is legacy and non plug and play. Windows may detect modems and mice by probing the port, but its not that necessary. As long as windows can talk to the com port, it doesn't need to know what is attached. Girder works fine for me with my devices without windows adding a driver for them.

Just curious to know whether you got the MouseRemote working?
I'm considering purchasing this remote and I'd like to know I can use it with Girder before buying!
Looking at other threads I see it can be used with Mark's serial plugin. However, it is not clear whether the mouse functionality works correctly. Could someone confirm whether or not the mouse part of the remote works correctly - ie. what codes does it send, can they be used?
Thankyou,
Matt

I've got the X10 MouseRemote working with 3.1 using the MaX10 software to send girder -eventsring commands.
MaX10 doesn't set the top byte in the 32-bit keycode values, and some apps expect this to be set for ALT-key combinations, so I had to use Girder to generate the proper ALT-key codes.

Hi,
I just recently discovered this fantastic piece of software (Girder) and am very happy with it. I'm using an X10 Mouseremote. I bought a second PC especially for DivX and MP3 playing. The only problem is that Windows XP refuses to detect any devices connected to the COM port!
I've checked out all the BIOS settings and they're OK. The thing is, XP detects the COM port, but not the X10 receiver attached to the port. The same thing happens when I attach an old serial mouse. COM port is found, but no device attached according to XP. AAARGH!!
I even splashed out more money for an extra 2 COM ports which are connected through a PCI bus. Same thing. Two new COM ports are found on the system, but no devices can be detected...
I'm currently using a workaround which involves 2 PCs both running Girder. One DOES recognize the X10 on the COM port and acts as a TCP/IP Client sending commands to the DivX server which runs the TCP/IP Server plugin. But ofcourse I would much rather have a stand alone solution. Has anyone had a familiar problem?
I'm running Windows XP Pro on a MSI 6378 micro-ATX motherboard, AMD Duron 1.2 Ghz.
Any help or hints greatly appreciated.
Regards.

I have to say I was seriously considering that. Only thing I have lying around is Win2k Pro, but would that really make so much of a difference?
Anyway, I'll try to make my system as generic as possible and if I'm satisfied with it I'll share my work here in the future.

The thing is that on my second PC (also Win XP) XP detects the X10 Remote as a standard serial mouse which I disable from the Device Manager and Girder will respond to signals, also a serial mouse will work. I'm inclined to believe that it's down to the motherboard on my media PC.
Anyways, I'm seriously thinking about investing in a different motherboard (shame, since this one is brand new) and while I'm at it I'll get rid of XP and install Windows 2000 Pro. ZoomPlayer seems to crash in the middle of playback of a DivX movie for no explainable reason. I've done some research on the Imatrix forum and it's not down to the DirectSound/Terratec bug which occurs when the player switches to the next file in the playlist. My crashes occur in mid-play(!) and I don't believe my sound hardware is Terratec based.
I've already spent a sh*tload of cash on putting this new mediaserver together, but in spite of all the setbacks until now I'm pretty jazzed about the possibilities Girder offers (Zoomplayer dito). I've created a pretty cool user interface in the past few days using these tools to check movies on my widescreen at the touch of a button. :D
Thanks for the comments.
Regards.
