How are we going to convince them to do this ? By showing that there is money in it. So we need a lot of people asking for this. How do we reach a lot of people ? Not on this forum, the group that ends up here regularly is fairly small. Suggestions ?

Did someone managed to control WinDVD 4 by Girder not using keyboard shortcuts? I tried using similar way like the old WinDVD 3.x (WM_COMMAND) but I have problems doing this. When I use the capture window everything is fine - I can test the captured command but when I use SmartFill and the test the Girder command it doesn't work. As far as I found out the problem is that the ChildObject Name is an empty string and there are too many childobjects of the same class (Afs:8....). In the capture window I see the Handle of this object but it can't be filled in the Target window (and I think this is right because it changes from one run of the program to the other).
Does anybody have an IDEA?

vynce, I like your group but it's not what I wanted. The problem with keyboard shortcuts is that they don't give you full functionality. For example you can't start a movie when it's stopped :(. Also there are a few other features like rewinding that can't be done with shortcuts.
I contacted InterVideo but they are not willing to help me
:(
Guys, let's put some pressure on them and make them add some support for Girder (I mean official WM_COMMAND interface) like so others have done - BSPlayer, ZoomPlayer, ... .

I'll post the problem in the AVS Forum - I'think there are a lot of people there that use WinDVD and probably Girder. If they don't use Girder I think they will start doing so because after you know about Girder you can't simply live WITHOUT it

vynce, I understood your group fine. I saw that it uses messages but it is based on the keyboard shortcuts that are described in the help file. That's what I don't like. I did'n see the "activate" command. Now after you've mentioned it I see it works like "Play". So I think if we doesn't have any success in the request from InterVideo we should put up with this method.

I have made a WinDVD 4 group using windows messages. Get it here *WinDVD 4 Group* (http://www.vynce.kicks-ass.net/Girder/WinDVD4.GML). I think I did it by starting Girder's message capture function, then using the keyboard shortcuts for WinDVD to activate the various commands. This produced the correct messages whereas just clicking on the buttons didn't work properly.

I'm not sure if you understand my WinDVD group properly. It does not use any keyboard shortcuts. All functions are controlled through windows messages (I had to get the messages by pressing the keyboard shortcuts in WinDVD). There are some problems though, like you mentioned. When the movie is stopped the play button won't start it, but the activate button will. General rewinding and fastforwarding work fine, but if you were talking about the variable-speed dial on the left side of the interface then you are correct. I agree that a better Windows Message system in most applications would be great - especially if they released a list of all the valid commands in the help file or something :D.

I'm all for getting software companies to change their programs to work with Girder (and I would think that if there was any program where it was best to use a remote, it would be DVD players). But I doubt if InterVideo is going to be very willing, considering they sell their own remote (http://www.intervideo.com/jsp/Product_Profile.jsp?p=WinDVDRemote), which uses their software, WinCinema Manager.
