I am having to replace my Heating and Air next week and was looking at thermonstats that I could plug into my home automation system controlled by Girder 5. The installer I am going with uses Aprilaire Thermostats. I was wondering if the Aprilaire 8870 can be controlled with Girder. Anyone using this thermostat or have recommendations.

There is already a plugin written for HAI Omnistats. I'm using the RC80 single stage heat/cool. Works great with the Flatstyle ccf. These are RS232 serial communications so you would need to run some cables from G5 box to the stat locations. I have 3 of them on a single run of cat 5 cable. I suppose if your pretty good with lua you could do the same with the Aprilair units.

Thanks Dave. I ended up buying the 2 stage heat/cool HAI Ominstat. Question? I was going to make my one serial cable to connect to my home automation computer directly. Do you know the pin configuration for the RS232 plug?

Scott, Here is what I have.
9 pin serial-------omnistat comm pigtail
1,4,6-------------yellow wire
2-----------------Red wire
3-----------------Green wire
5-----------------Black wire
I used cat 5 cable and used solid colors for signal and twist (striped) wire for signal ground. pin 5 being signal ground here.
