Hello guys,
I have a problem here. I have a fresh Vista Ult 64 bit installation, all patches (no SP1), fresh Girder beta installation. Girder fails ever time I try to start it. It has not started successfully even once. There is no error message from Girder, just that vague Windows message that the program has failed, Windows is trying to find a solution... There is no entries in the event log, nothing at all.
I don't know where to start fixing it. Is there any log file I can attach here to help with the diagnosis?
Thanks,
A.

Can you try temporarily disabling the UAC (User Access Control?) to see if that lets Girder start.
Did you install it under the same account as you're running it? Or does Vista insist on installing only as administrator - sorry to be a bit vague here but I try to avoid Vista (especially 64-bit).

Hi Rob,
UAC disabled - same thing.
Uninstall, reinstall with UAC disabled - same thing.
Yes, the same account.
Uninstalled and reinstalled as admin - same thing...
Compatibility setting have no effect.
What else to try? I tried Girder beta on XP - it starts. ;-)
My system is this: Core2 Quad6600, 6Gb RAM, 8800gts. I want to utilize all 6Gb, so I have to use 64 bit system.

Ron should be back from CES today I think, so let's see what he has to say about this.

Okay, remove all plugins from the Girder plugins directory and restart Girder.

Removed all content from the plugins folder - same failure.

remove all files (and subdirectories) from the luascript folder... (or simply rename that folder )

Yes, I think it does - looks like it's probably the third party protection component that we use.

Ron,
I just installed Girder beta, it did not ask for any key at all. Do you have a key for beta testing?

Hi Ron,
No, Girder never started for me. I installed SP1 RC1, it did not change a thing with Girder... I am going to install SP1 refresh now, will post after that.

Ron,
it takes forever to uninstall that SP1 and install a new one. I gave up yesterday. Will try again today, maybe.
I am seriously reconsidering my decision on using Vista 64... Media Center crashes, ffdshow-64 crashes sometimes, I can't send sound on spdif and pc speakers at the same time...
Does Girder work on XP 64, Ron?

As I said I do not have win64 myself but heard that Girder does run, however I cannot say how well it would run....

I run Vista x64 and was running Girder happily for a long time. Then I changed my boot drive which should have no effect on any software as the C: drive is still the same . Now both Girder and Theatertek are crashing instantly on startup everytime . No other software is affected. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both pieces of software but to no avail . I tried renaming folders and disabling as much stuff as possible still the same error !

I reinstalled Vista x64 severely vLite'd (vLite removes unnecessary stuff from Vista installation media). I actually like how Vista works now.
Still no luck with Girder, though... It still does not start.
However, I found EventGhost utility! It is free, it understands my IR receiver, it controls ZoomPlayer and ffdshow - all I need. And it works under my Vista x64 and XP too.
