G5 plugins

Will G4 plugins work with G5? There are a large number of plugins listed under download for G4, but only a few under download for G5. I expect that a number of G4 plugins can't be tested without the corresponding hardware, but it would be nice to know which G4 plugins should be expected to work with G5, and which shouldn't.

Generally, yes, G4 plugins and GMLs should work fine. One possible exception to this is some serial devices that may need a small bit of tweaking (the semantics of receive terminators changed slightly)
