What kind of receiver is it? I don't know how an IR receiver can hook into the line in on a sound card. What brand an model is it?

I don't know anything about Aims Lab (and can't find any info on the net - they seem to have gone under). However, if it was a connection on the back of one of their cards, I doubt if you'll find another way to hook it up. If you don't have and ISA slot on your motherboard, I guess you're probably out of luck.
If you still want to control your computer with a remote, I would suggest something like the IRMan (http://www.evation.com), which hooks up to a COM port.
Good luck
