Sorry can't help. I'm using plain win32 api nothing special here. Did you select the right channel, e.g. mute channel or a line channel ?

Good luck. Curious to see what they say.

some possibilities

* upgrade your drivers
* we don't support third party software
* Girder what is that ?
* Creative live ? Sir we now have a far better sound card for you at an incredible discount

Hi everyone. I have a Creative Sound Blaster 5.1 Live! sound card, with Windows 98. Since I started using Girder (back at version 3.0), I've had trouble with losing control of my volume.

It's not always repeatable, but I'm pretty sure that it gets messed up when I have Girder running, have used my Girder volume controls (via remote) at least once, and then try to change the master volume manually (using the volume control in the system tray). Then, no matter what I do, I can't get it back (even after closing Girder).

Changing the volume by the master controls, or by remote, has no effect. It just keeps the last volume before it stopped. Another wierd thing is that if I try to change the volume with my remote, my percentage OSD always says "0%" (it doesn't even keep the old value). And the volume controls in Winamp and MMJB have no effect either.

The only way I've found to fix this problem is by rebooting my machine.

I don't think it's a problem with my sound card, but I've checked everything on Creative's web site and can't find anything. And it only happens when I use Girder, so I think that might be the cause.

Please help! This is driving me nuts.

Thanks.

Yeah. I'm using a line channel. I've tried others, though. Same thing. Everything works fine before it stops, so I know it's the right one.

I'll call Creative. I just wanted to check here before I spent 5 hours on hold with tech support :(

Heh. Yeah, I always expect fun responses, and being treated like a moron. You know, questions like "Sir, are you sure you have the speakers plugged into the card? Could you check again to make sure?"

You just listed one of my all time tech support pet peeves. No support for 3rd party software. What use is a sound card if you don't use other software? Am I going to buy a nice one just to hear the recycle bin emptying?

I wouldn't have thought of the last one. Now that I think about it, they have the external drive with a remote control. So, the second I tell them I'm using a remote, they'll probably try to pitch their own to me.

Maybe I can get by without telling them about the remote or Girder, and just hope that it's just a common/known problem with their cards.

I'll let you know what I find out. Thanks.
