Upgrade your browser.

http//www.mozilla.org

or IE, opera or whatnot.

Well I'm sorry but I'm not going to support a browser that is over 4 years old. Life goes on and so does technology.

HAHA, NO.

They all have downfalls worse than Netscape 4, although Mozilla is improving.

just curious: what are you missing in mozilla that you have in ns4? I didn't use ns4 for quite some time.

Mozilla is just bloated and slow. Plain and simple.

you're right. starting it and opening windows takes forever. even on quite fast computers.
but Gecko is fast. Mozilla 1.1 (which is in alpha right now) is supposed to speed up loading and opening of windows...
or you could try kmeleon (see http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net , you probably need to use mozilla to load the page). kmeleon uses gecko but doesn't have mozilla's inferface.

I get "The document contained no data." trying to open the forum page from Netscape 4.7x, http://www.girder.nl/phpBB2/index.php

Check your proxy server/settings. (Or if might have proxy filtering something)

I can configure my proxy to get to the same error on most PHP based sites, still it doesn't mean the problem is with the site. The problem is actually from the proxy proccessing the content incorrectly.

Actually, I get the same error using mozilla.

The last release of Netscape 4 was Oct 2001.

No proxy here.

As for speed, those extra delays waiting for window and menu loads really add up on slower machines and by slower I mean 400 and 500Mhz are just slowed enough to make the interface completely non-interactive.
The slower machines are just painful.

If speed is your priority, I can heartily recommend Opera. It's by far the fastest graphical browser I have tried. It's only drawback is the occassional page it fails to display correctly, usually because those pages have been written with IE exclusively in mind . The vast majority of webpages, including the Girder site, behave faultlessly.

I think it is the same problem as discussed into another thread...

http://www.girder.nl/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1939&highlight=
