How can I easily add and external power supply to my UIR? It doesn't work on my laptop and I suspect that it needs external power. A quick way to hook up a 9V battery it good enough for me.

Thanks

do you mean UIR or UIRT? :)

The power modification for either would be fine. I am building the UIR, but I can figure out how to adapt a UIRT power supply to the UIR if neccecary

I used a 7805 voltage regulator and connected it to the big capacitor C1 on the original UIRT schematic by Ruud, and it works ok for me.
(both sending and recieving)

This works, provided your power supply is isolated from the computer ground (chassis). Otherwise you will be effectively short-circuiting your power supply as the +5V line in Ruud's schematic is actually connected to the RS232 ground.

Hello,

Do you have a simple schematic? Where I put the +5V and GND?? How big the capacitor needs to be?
